The Knicks should try to pay him less than his max, but they might not be able too. As others have pointed out he has a valuable skill set and if the Knicks don't pay someone else will.

It would be better if he played more games, but that's how the NBA is sometimes (especially in the current era).

If 29 teams think you are worth 20 million a year, and 1 team thinks you are worth 40 million a year, then you are worth 40 million. It's Dolan's money anyway.

Well, it's better if one team thinks you are worth 40M and a 2nd is at 38M so the team that values you at 40M can't just offer 25M and still beat the competition.
