Where do you Rank Scottie Pippen in 2024 Season

Post#1 » by LaLover11 » Fri May 10, 2024 6:46 pm

Rank Scottie Pippen in Today's league 2024 Season
Prime Scottie that won the 1994 All Star MVP as the #1 option

" Scottie Pippen graced the NBA hardwood for seventeen seasons, establishing himself as an elite player and the quintessential small forward. The multidimensional Pippen ran the court like a point guard, attacked the boards like a power forward, and swished the nets like a shooting guard. A seven-time All Star, Pippen went to the basket equally well with either hand and his effortless release on his jump shot meant defenders were at his mercy no matter what the situation. Pippen was a key factor in the Chicago Bulls six NBA championships in the 1990s. As testimony to his remarkable talents, Pippen was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history in 1996. Pippen was also recognized for his defensive talents, named eight times to the NBA All-Defensive First Team. Pippen won gold medals at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, the first coming as a member of the original Dream Team"

He was All Star game MVP, not NBA MVP.

Edit: Chipotle beat me.

He'd be a top 10-15 player today.

Not as high as he'd rank himself, that's for sure.

Scottie Pippen was about as good as Paul George. Obviously they’re not the same player, but their strengths and weaknesses are similar and so is their overall quality IMO. Obviously, Pippen was a greater player, since he had so much more team success and fewer injury issues, but I’m just talking here about individual quality. Peak Pippen would rank higher in the league than current Paul George does, since Paul George is past his peak now, but think about where peak Paul George landed and that’s probably about right.

Top 50 closer to the 35ish mark all-time. One of the best if not "the best" defenders of all-time, good option on offense but not always consistant. His prime puts him in this 35-45 range, but if you take away those 2 "non-jordan" years...he'd likely end up closer to the 55-60ish range. His Rockets year and return to Chicago in 03 are not even worth talking about...time witht the Blazers besides his defense he wouldn't even be talked about.

In terms of those "prime non-Jordan years" in today's league, he'd be a top 10-15 player. It would be like a fully healthy Kawhi Leonard for all 82+ games.

He’d be worse than Jokić, SGA, and Luka by any definition. He’d be worse than Giannis and Embiid when healthy. Brunson, Ant, and LeBron would all be arguable. So you could probably rank him anywhere from 4-9.

Great answer

I'm asking what rank best player would he be during the 2024 season.

Jokic #1
SGA #2
Luka #3

Where would he be ranked after that

He was an awesome player, and he would be an awesome player in this era as well. But, he was and he would be a number 2, then and now. Anyhow he was an amazing player on both sides of the court, I would put him somewhere 40-50 all time.

He's like a playmaking point guard version of Kawhi. Kawhi sometimes has been regarded as the second best player in the league behind LeBron. He would be in discussion for best player in the league. He finished 3rd in MVP voting that year you presented. He's a lock down defensive player and a championship level playmaker. Top 3...

Well, I think he’d be behind Jokic, SGA, Luka, Giannis, Embiid, and Kawhi—assuming they’re all healthy, of course (which is a big caveat for at least a couple of those). After that, you start getting into a hazier area. He’d probably be in that Brunson/Tatum/ANT/AD zone, along with perhaps some others (such as maybe Booker, LeBron, Durant, etc.). I think amongst that group, it’d have to do with subjective preferences. Obviously, as an offensive player Pippen would be at the low end of these sorts of guys, so you’d have to be quite high on the value of his defense to put him above most of those. He was an incredible defender, so that would be a totally viable view to take, but there’s a lot of subjectivity in evaluating individual defense and its value.

Pip is one of my favorite players ever and I watched every single game he played for the bulls. That said, I've always thought he was a little overrated. A great all around player but not a #1 on offense. I've seen people here say that Jordan couldn't win until Pippen arrived. That's true, but Jordan had absolutely nothing prior. I think the 10-15 range if he played today sounds about right.

When MJ's son took his ex he's now outside my top 50. Also he still has braids and he's damn near 60! Walking L!
