Agree or disagree?

Obviously I agree. Everyone thought the Thunder were the worst #1 seed in years because they hadn't watched them all season

Ex-players are as clueless as current players when it comes to evaluating basketball, but doubly so when it comes to players they have a natural bias towards or against.

I'll let everyone figure out for themselves why so many players like Shaq and Pierce are indignant about SGA not winning the MVP, and never mention Luka as being short-changed.

Luka was 3rd in MVP voting and it wasn't particularly close.

There are other MVP candidates but unfortunately for them they are living in Joker's world right now. To give to them, you would have to NOT give it to Jokic, and that would be the wrong decision.

And has not been mentioned once by ex-players as being unlucky not to win.

Somehow playing in a small market didn't stop Karl Malone from winning a MVP award he probably didn't deserve.

Wouldn’t exactly call Denver a big market, KD & Westbrook both won an MVP in the last decade in OKC too

There’s a lot of ex-players from the 2000s who don’t want a white guy to win MVP. Kendrick Perkins, Shaq, Gilbert Arenas, and Paul Pierce.

Nah. I think he was phenomenal and has been under rated all of last year as well. It takes 12 months for the media to notice.

I had him behind Luka and Jokic, but it's gotten to the point or starting to saying he should of won it over Jokic. The narrative has flipped that he's the lone superstar surrounded by good role players. Kinda yes, but Williams should of been an all star and is hugely under-ratee, and what Chet has done coming in and not only holding down the C and defense, but absolutely nailed it is now under-rated. He's probably the best rookie bar Wemby and Lillard in terms of impact over showing potential and playing ok

That's fair. I definitely don't think Jokic was undeserving.

To be fair to PP and Shaq.

SGA would have won MVPs in their era. Using some of the standards of that era he would have won. The goalposts have shifted a lot recently. There’s a much heavier emphasis on advanced stats (as well as better, more accurate advanced stats) rather than just who’s the best player on the #1 seed or the player with the best narrative

Nuggets and the Thunder literally have the same amount of wins lol.

To me he is the third best player in the NBA - Luka and Embiid are comfortably ahead of him.

The people that vote should be paying enough attention to games to make that vote regardless of broadcast options. Last I checked, we're not voting for MVP, sports writers and broadcasters are. They should be watching a lot of games and have League Pass. If you're basing your vote only on national broadcast games, then you shouldn't have a vote.

Disagree.

He was never the best player in the league.

Is he suggesting the voters don't have league pass?

When did people give Pierce a microphone again? Does ESPN need to fire him again?

Jokic led the NBA in box plus minus, value over replacement player, player efficiency rating, and win shares per 48 minutes. For the fourth season in a row. Literally only Kareem, Jordan, LeBron, and Jokic have done that.

He just throws elbows every time he attacks the paint, and he gets rewarded for that by getting free throws, let's reward him further by making him MVP of the league.

The thing is he doesn't need to throw elbows like that just to get cheap fouls to be a great player and rack up stats, but he definitely does and at least in my book that's not the MVP of the league. Great shooter great defensive player, but he cheapens himself by doing that. It makes him a worse free throw merchant than Embiid.
