Cavs President berated J.B. Bickerstaff in front of his entire staff for playing Mitchell too many minutes on Dec. 18th

Post#1 » by ChipotleWest » Thu May 16, 2024 6:11 am

This happened on December 18th. When I made the thread I thought it happened in the playoffs because hoopshype didn't specify. If you want to get angry and go ballistic over a simple mistake like a few others have in this thread by all means I'll just laugh at how serious you take a basketball forum.

After the game, Cavs president Koby Altman walked into the coach’s office and admonished head coach J.B. Bickerstaff in front of his entire staff for playing Mitchell such heavy minutes, multiple sources briefed on the interaction told The Athletic. Descriptions of the incident spread across the organization, including the locker room.

Koby Altman is the one that should be fired, from his drunk driving incident to berating a coach in front of his staff...

Honestly JB is in a tough situation, he did the best he could do with the team, they were injured in the playoffs and still won a game against the Celtics, he may not be the best best best coach but he certainly isn't close to anywhere near the worst either.

But to be fair, Cleveland is kind of a crappy place and it seems like the GM is an ass, maybe he might be better off leaving Cleveland, Idk.

He could be good on Washington probably as well if he were to get fired.

Well I read that on hoopshype, but it didn't say this happened on December 18th which is a little different. 45 minutes in a game in December is a lot, but it went to OT. Not sure why it's just coming out now though.

Do you actually believe that thibs didn’t receive any criticism or are you just saying That to fit your narrative?

45 mins for an OT game isn't that bad. If that's too much for Spida, then you need to find yourself another franchise player

Guys like Bird and Magic averaged over forty a night and didn’t get “rest” days.

Altman is a buffoon. They both need to be fired. Just hire a smart young offensive-minded coach, trade everyone and build around Mobley. Half-measures and running it back will just result in play-in territory and that's the worst place to be as a franchise. I should know

Yeah I remember JBB in his rockets days. No offensive creativity, overplaying his players to try to make up the difference, blaming every single loss on a lack of hustle from his players. Now he's even playing double bigs to get the defense he wants and doesn't see how it's heavily limiting the offense.

Hard working coach who's great at getting defensive effort but a dead end at the end of the day. To get far in the playoffs you need a better coach.

Wait, this is about something that happened 6 months ago?

Mitchell is 23rd in minutes per game in the playoffs.

STFU and GTFO.

Telling people to STFU is not allowed. Disagree with the post but don't attack the poster. -b
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

There was plenty of public reporting about the Bulls front office yelling at Thibs when he ignored minute restrictions on players.

And one of the reasons Nurse wasn't rehired is because when he was criticized for playing his starters too many minutes, he publicly responded that his bench sucked.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Guy who makes questionable personnel decision looks to point finger elsewhere. Nothing new for the NBA.

JB shouldn't be immune from blame, either, of course.

That said, this is the furthest the Cavs have made it in the playoffs since how long?
