Inter-divisional games

Post#1 » by BruceO » Sat Jan 26, 2008 10:27 am

Theres all these things added to the all star games which essentially answer alot of what if questions for us. E.g what if the best players ( or most voted for) players on each conference played against each other..becomming what is now the all star game. Who is the best three point shooter, who is the best dunker.
Another thing I want to see is having teams formed within each division and they play each other during the all star game. This answers the question which division can form the strongest team. It'll be fun to watch for that reason. It'll also be fun to watch if their is intra-divisional rivals during regular season and now you have to work with each other. It also can form divisional rivals like SE vs SW divisional rivals etc. It'll also be interesting if one division has a strong team and everyone else sucks.
So who would round up your divisional teams and how would you predict they'd do

Northwest:
PG - Allen Iverson / Deron Williams
SG - Bradon Roy / Rashad McCants
SF - Carmelo Anthony / Kevin Durant
PF - LaMarcus Aldridge / Carlos Boozer
C - Marcus Camby / Al Jefferson

I put Rashad McCants in because
A) I'm not the familiar with Northwest teams.
B) I think he's a great shooter and has a lot of scoring and defensive ability. When I last saw him he had an sort of attitude/intensity that was reminiscent of KG.

Pacific:
PG - Steve Nash / Baron Davis / Leandro Barbosa
SG - Kobe Bryant / Stephen Jackson
SF - Shawn Marion / Raja Bell?
PF - Chris Kaman / Lamar Odom
C - Amare Stoudamire / Andrew Bynum

Southwest:
PG - Chris Paul / Tony Parker
SG - Manu Ginobilli / Josh Howard
SF - Dirk Nowitzki / Tracy McGrady
PF - Tim Duncan / David West
C - Yao Ming / Pau Gasol / Tyson Chandler

Atlantic:
PG - Jason Kidd / Jose Calderon
SG - Ray Allen / Vince Carter
SF - Paul Pierce / Andre Igudola
PF - Kevin Garnett / David Lee
C - Chris Bosh / Samuel Dalembert

Central:
PG - Chauncey Billups / Kirk Hinrich
SG - Michael Redd / RIP Hamilton
SF - LeBron James / Tayshaun Prince / Danny Granger
PF - Jermaine O'Neal / Jason Maxiell
C - Rasheed Wallace / Big Z

Southeast(team of the future):
PG - Gilbert Arenas / Raymond Felton
SG- Dwyane Wade / Jason Richardson
SF - Caron Butler / Hedo Turkoglu
PF - Al Horford / Rashard Lewis / Gerald Wallace
C - Dwight Howard / Emeka Okafor
My Starting 5:

PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Paul Pierce
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Patrick Ewing

It'd have to be like, five v five, one player from each team, no repeat all-stars. These teams could very well change depending on which reserves are selected.
Northwest:
PG Jose Calderon-Toronto
SG Ray Allen-Boston
SF Richard Jefferson/Vince Carter-New Jersey
PF Zach Randolph-New York
C Samuel Dalembert-Philadelphia
Central:
PG Ben Gordon-Chicago
SG Michael Redd-Milwaukee
SF Mike Dunleavy-Indiana
PF Rasheed Wallace-Detroit
C Zydrunas Ilgauskus-Cleveland
Southeast:
PG Jason Williams-Miami (ick)
SG Gerald Wallace-Charlotte
SF Hedo Turkoglu-Orlando
PF Josh Smith-Atlanta
C Brendan Haywood-Washington

I suppose I should name alternates in case Calderon (yeah right!), Ray Allen, Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, Michael Redd, Mike Dunleavy, Rasheed Wallace, Zydrunas Ilgauskus, Gerald Wallace, Hedo Turkoglu, Josh Smith, or Brendan Haywood get into the AS game (since there has been a super homer thread campaigning for each):
Substitute=ASReserve
Mo Williams=Michael Redd, Richard Jefferson=Vince Carter (both won't make it), Jamal Crawford and Zach Randolph is somehow replaced=Ray Allen , Jermaine O'Neal and Tayshaun Prince sneaks in removing Rasheed Wallace=Mike Dunleavy, Emeka Okafor and Rasheed is snubbed=Gerald Wallace, Rashard Lewis=Hedo Turkoglu, Joe Johnson and Turkoglu moves to PF and Gerald Wallace to SF=Josh Smith, Drew Gooden and Sheed moves over to C=Zydrunas Ilgauskus, Shaquille O'Neal and Gilbert Arenas somehow plays=Brendan Haywood

What would be the point? Pacific would dominate.

Southwest (this team would dominate)
PG Tony Parker-San Antonio
SG Tracy McGrady-Houston
SF Josh Howard-Dallas
PF David West-Charlotte
C Pau Gasol-Memphis
Northwest
PG Deron Williams-Utah
SG Brandon Roy-Portland
SF Kevin Durant-Seattle
PF Al Jefferson-Minnesota
C Marcus Camby-Denver
Pacific
PG Beno Udrih-Sacramento
SG Stephen Jackson-Golden State
SF Shawn Marion-Phoenix
PF Lamar Odom-LAL
C Chris Kaman-LAC

What say you?

If, somehow Tracy McGrady, Josh Howard, Deron Williams, Brandon Roy, Marcus Camby, Shawn Marion, or Chris Kaman make the all-star game:
Substitute=>ASReserve
Shane Battier and Josh Howard is considered a SG=Tracy McGrady, Jason Terry at SG=Josh Howard, Andrei Kirilenko and Durant moves to SG and Roy to PG=Deron Williams, LaMarcus Aldridge somehow=Marcus Camby (I would not snub Al Jefferson but have no idea who from Denver would deserve to go), Steve Nash and Ron Artest becomes the SF=Shawn Marion (no way all three make the team), Brad Miller and blahdeblah=Chris Kaman.

I think this would be a great opportunity for the second- and third-tier players to shine, as well as for teams not *good* enough to have a representative (Atlanta=Josh Smith, Charlotte=Gerald Wallace).
I could not tell you how this tournament would play out or any details on the scoring, but it'd be hella awesome.

I think the list was the players not already in the ASG. Basically the snubs. Also couldnt you tell there were other notable omissions from his list. DUncan, Kobe, Dirk, and Yao.

Nash isn't in the ASG as it stands right now...

I'm pretty sure Gjense made the list hoping everyone would make the assumption Nash and the other notable exceptions would indeeed be in the ASG. Unfortunately......

If that's the case, then Roy, Hedo, and RJ don't belong there either.

If we're just going by starting 5, the Atlantic would give them a run for their money.

Look. It should have been clear. I made a list of snubs, yes. This gives exposure to players whose teams were not good enough (with tremendous stats and personal success) or whose stats have fallen due to team basketball (example being Ray Allen).
Hedo should not make the all-star game and I'm not counting on Brandon Roy being selected, either. Richard Jefferson has a strong chance, however.
I would go back and edit Steve Nash into my Pacific lineup (since I would not vote for him in the ASGame and he has not officially been selected yet) for you but you've been a bit of a pain.

If you establish the lineups by any other method you've essentially created two conflicting all-star games.

Yao/Gasol
Duncan/Nowitzki
Josh Howard/Gay
Mcgrady/Ginobili
Paul/Parker

That's a pretty nice lineup IMO. The Atlantic's starting 5 could challenge that, and I believe the Pacific would have a nice squad as well. This is an interesting idea.

Let me restate it. It doesnt have to be only snubs.

Reason being is one. I'd want players to be able to have pride and say our division forms the toughest team and not have the cop out that so and so was in the all star game. SO and SO could play both.

Reason two is if you can't make your division squad you have no business being in the all star game. I'm sure the Josh Smith, Josh howards, Jamisons, Marions, the brands would make this squad. The popularity contest would kinda end and people let their game speak, atleast for this tournament.

So far I've seen teams you guys have formed that you're convinced would dominate the others, I mean I don't think the SE team is too shabby with Arenas, Wade, Caron, ____, Howard. I was going to put Jamison in as the PF but I don't want to sound too much like a homer. I think Josh Smith would be a good replacement. Gerald wallace is a good replacement at the three, and Joe Johnson at the two. Overall I would put up that squad against any of yours. I'm just wondering who you got
