Agreed. The Hawks should've had 75 free throw attempts last night instead of 47, IMO.

Glad to see we're on the same page. :D

If that doesn't make you want to cheer for the Hawks, I don't know what will.

Josh Smith had that very dirty hit against Pierce that caused his back strain. He had a hit against Rondo as well, so his Bill Laimbeer-like actions are hardly something to make a person root for a team.
Bibby cried about Boston's fans, but Hawks fans didn't exactly fill stadiums these last several years.
There has been some trash talking as well. When you can actually back it up(Larry Legend, for instance) it's one thing, but obviously it's a little ridiculous when you're a 37-win team.
The other team has brought basketball into the mainstream in the 1960's when it was considered a third-rate sport before that but the Russell-Chamberlain rivalry changed that. Russell was the first player to bring defense into the NBA, so obviously any fan of defensive basketball should have great appreciation for his achievements. And, of course, the 1980's Celtics helped bring basketball back into its golden age. They've also produced the two greatest player rivalries of all time in Bird-Magic and Russell-Chamberlain. So, yeah, the Celtics are the team any true basketball fan should root for, not the Hawks.

People, including me, like seeing upsets. Especially when the team with the best record in the league is going up against the team with the worst record in the playoffs (a below 500 record).

this would have to be up there on the list of biggest chokejobs in SPORTS history, wouldn't it? it would definitely be #1 in the NBA..

the Hawks aren't bad, but I definitely considered them to be a below average team going into the playoffs..their regular season record was pathetic..then you put them up against the team with the top record in the NBA and add in all the Boston hype..wow..

The Boston Celtics didn't have anything to do with basketball's revival. This is a player's game, not a franchise's game. Do we forget Bird and Magic were already setting TV ratings records before they even set foot in the NBA? That National Championship game pulled a 24.1 rating and a 38 share. Still NCAA records.

I actually would of loved to see KG and Kobe play together. Both very much big personalities with opposite playing styles.

As a New York's sports fan, even though I don't really hate the Celtics and I like KG, it would delight be tremendously if two of the ten biggest upset in sports history would happen to Boston in the same year.

Are Celtics fans still talking about Hawks getting preferential treatment from the refs? You know how freakin ridiculous that sounds... I guess they just have to justify playing an elimination game against a 37 win team somehow. Yes, the refs are the reason why a 66 win team lost to a 37 win team 3 times on the road. Delirious I say.
