Was the Bucks-Sixers 2001 ECF series also rigged?

Post#1 » by Don Draper » Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:32 pm

I remember thinking the Bucks were getting massively hosed? What if the NBA was involved in this too?

Sixers+AI vs Lakers > Bucks v Lakers
http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2001/2001/0531/1208098.html
Here is what Ray Allen said back then:
"I think there's no question about that. The league, as a marketing machine, the bottom line is about making money," Allen said. "It behooves everybody for the league to make more money, and the league knows that Philadelphia is going to make more money with L.A. than we would with L.A."

Seems fishy to me.

As a Bucks fan I have been a real big conspiracy theroist. The last few years I finally talked myself out of that and just said that mistakes happen and there is no way this game can be fixed. Now I think I am back to being a conspiracy theroist.

You can ask any Bucks fan about Game 6 of the ECF's and they will tell you the same thing. The first half the Bucks came out and were blowing the Sixers out of the building. The second half the Bucks had a TON of fouls called on them which let the Sixers get back into it, almost wining the game.

Also during that game Scott Williams has a foul that was called a normal foul during the game. Then after the game the foul gets upgraded to a flagrant which ment Williams was suspended for game 7. Now I am sure a lot of people will say that Scott Williams isn't the difference between winning and losing, but Williams was so important to the Bucks that once he was replaced w/ Anthony Mason it was all downhill for my team.

Was it fixed? I sure as hell think so.

We just need someone who isn't a felon to come out and confirm. I hope and pray that this stuff brings others out of the woodwork. We need a new commisher to save our sport.

How about you stop clicking on threads that you obviously don't want to read?

The foul differential in the Bucks/Sixers series was pretty mindblowing, and Scott Williams getting suspended for game 7 for that foul on Iverson was one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen. There is no question Stern would have rather had AI and the big market Sixers vs. the Lakers than the Bucks, whether that series was "rigged" is a completely different story.

At the time, there were A LOT of fans saying something was up, and not just Bucks fans.

Allen said members of his family had told him that they were sitting across from NBA commissioner David Stern on Sunday and noticed him stand up to watch a replay after it appeared Allen got away with committing a foul against Iverson that wasn't called.

"He jumped up real mad like he was cheering for Philly," Allen said.

Bucks coach George Karl said conspiracy theories were "summer talk," although he claimed three other NBA coaches had called him after Game 5 to raise that very issue.

"Sam Cassell said that Kevin Garnett and Rod Strickland had called him, so it's out there," Karl said.

Yes, I believe it was. That "flagrant foul" on Scott Williams was horrible. Allen Iverson was treated like a GOD in that series. The crappy thing is, the Bucks would have had a great shot against the Lakers. We were something like 16-2 against the West that season and we swept the Lakers in the regular season. I know that doesn't translate over to the finals but the Bucks were such a good team that year that we probably could have won the title. David Stern probably knew that and that was one of his reasons for fixing the series.

There's no question the Bucks would have and should have won that series against Philly. If the NBA truly does rig games, then it better be ready because what goes around (usually) comes around....

What is amazing about this and the stuff after game 5 is that is was before the Scott Williams raise to a flagrant 2.

Like others have said, it was a weak flagrant 1 foul, and on top of that they raised it to a flagrant two. Scott William wasnt one who would make an impact in the game but he was the only one who could stop the sixers making an impact on our front court

This (and many other playoff series') was as rigged as the Lottery, and if you don't think the NBA Lottery is rigged, you must think Tim Donaghy is an innocent man.

If the lottery is rigged then why didn't the Knicks win the lottery this year?! Why don't the Knicks win every year? Wait, why are the Knicks even in the lottery in the first place? The NBA is rigged!

Forget Tim Donaghy! I think there should be an investigation why the Knicks can't win anything. :D

The Knicks are too bad of a team to rig anything for. I think the NBA gave up on them after Isiah kept ruining the team with terrible GM moves.

A title with Georgy Porgy as a coach? You don't need to fix games...

Stern probably is waiting for the Knicks to get a decent management back, before handing them benefits... so it doesnt look too obvious.

I mean An Isaiah ran and coached team dominating, especially with that lineup he created... well its too obvious..

maybe next year... or maybe when the "next" LeBron or MJ or Kobe is projected.. Knicks will suddenly win No.1 or Philly... wouldnt be surprised.
