FBI Investigating Dick Bavetta!

Post#1 » by LakerLegend » Thu Jun 12, 2008 8:43 pm

The FBI has questioned an ex-NBA referee about Dick Bavetta, one of three officials to work Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals, according to The New York Times.

Hue Hollins, who retired in 2003, said the agents, who asked him about former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, also asked if he ever noticed that Bavetta "was making sure that the home team would win, and I told them I had no idea because I didn't work with him a lot," according to the Times.

According to the report, Hollins said the agents did not ask about a specific team, game or series, and did not ask about Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals.

"They were very specific about their questioning, as though they had heard something," Hollins said, according to the Times. "They knew exactly what they were going after."

Yea who here doesn't believe that Bavetta is 100% 'company man' and definitely one of the guys Donaghy was talking about?

These investigations will turn up nothing though. These guys will take this stuff to their graves unless the NBA turns their back on them like the NBA did to Donaghy by trying to get 1 million from him.

I've been calling him "fixer" Bavetta for years. Any non Bulls-fan that watched the 98 Finals (especially game 6) could se that something was up.

It really doesn't matter. I personally think that the NBA should fire every single referee. Clean house and spend this summer hiring and training a new corp of referees.

Really easy to do. Give every ref a severence package and be done with it.

I knew there was a reason why he hated Sloan so much.

This should make every Jazz fan happy.

I curse his name every time I see him for taking away Eisley's 3 pointer and giving Harper a 2 pointer, Eisley's clearly in time before the clock ran out, and Harpers clearly after. 5 point swing, Jazz win game 6 and have game 7 at home.

**** Bavetta.

We can take that one step further. Why is he allowed to officiate even as he is nearing 80 years old. It just makes no sense. I think its the perks of being a 'company man'.

Yea that was terrible, and to echo what you said both calls wernt even close.

Im not a Jazz fan but after that game I kept thinking with those 2 calls in mind ''that was awesome finish, but the Jazz shoulda won''.

If more refs are involed or if something fishy has been going on names like Bavetta,Joey Crawford,Bennet Salvatore will be names you will be hearing about among others.

NBA should have a mandatory retirement age of 60 for refs.

You know whats funny, the former ref who's talking about is saying he didn't know any specific instances of Bavetta holding calls and doing shady stuff. Literally, it took me less than 20 seconds to come up with 3 of them. And not just the obvoius ones, one recent one I remember is Bavetta flat out ignoring Prince's inbound timeout call in the 06 ECF game. I'm sure there was a point spread he was trying to get to there.

They would have had game 7 at home with Pippen likely out (Pip said after the game he was glad they won in 6 cause he did not think he would have been able to play game 7) and all the momentum. The officiating as a whole was really bad in both Jazz Bulls series and you can guess in who's favor. Pippen basically played zone defense the entire first series when no zone was allowed.
