NBA League Pass Broadband - Stand-Alone?

Post#1 » by buxfan » Tue Oct 7, 2008 6:46 pm

Does anyone know if the NBA League Pass Broadband will be available as a stand-alone product for the '08-09 season? I would like to get NBA League Pass to be able to watch my hometown Milwaukee Bucks but our cable company here in the Detroit area does not (and will not) offer the service. And because we are renting, satellite is not an option. So I am limited to watching the games on the computer. Last year, I used a Slingbox hooked up at my mother's house in Wisconsin, but the quality was so poor that I want to look for other opportunities.

even if it was offered, i think they block out your local team's games. So you miss pistons vs bucks 4 times a year.

Why would you want to watch the bucks anyway? Pay 100+ dollars to watch them rebuild/not rebuild... yeah not worth it.

I wouldn't miss those games. I'd get to watch them on an actual TV screen because they are broadcast in Detroit. Granted, I would have to listen to the sorry Pistons announcers...

I am not a fair weather fan. I had Bucks season tix before moving away a couple of years ago for a job. So $100 or so is little compared to the amount I used to spend for tickets to see them.

Find someone who bought league pass and ask them to let you use Broadband if you pay for half of the cost.

Make sure the games aren't blacked out though.

LP Broadband is pretty good quality. I too would like to buy it seperately but I don't think they offer that. I might be willing to buy the whole League Pass if it isn't too much.

The NBA's lack of a paid broadband standalone product is endlessly frustrating. I don't want to pay the charge for cable, then I'd just buy the freaking league pass normally. MLB.com, as mentioned, has a good service that's reasonably priced and good quality and I don't have to buy cable to use it.

I'd easily buy LP if they put it as broadband stand alone for a cheaper price than the TV one. Does Stern not realize there's untapped money in doing it?

This is Stern we are talking about. I was looking into this because I realized all I watch on TV is basketball and I'm not down with paying for cable anymore. I know at least 40 people who would buy the service yesterday.

I asked this question last year and they responded that at the time it was not available. Might be now though.......

NBA LEAGUE PASS Broadband is not sold as a stand-alone product. You must be an active NBA LEAGUE PASS satellite or digital cable subscriber to get NBA LEAGUE PASS Broadband.

Lame.

So, let's say I would have the money (which I have not ) to get it, I could not get it because I'm not in the US ?
Wow...that sucks

That FAQ is dated from early last season, so it is possible (but doubtful) that it could change for 2008-09:

so guys im guessing that its still not available to those living outside of the U.S? If so it's just ridiculous. Can you imagine how many people would purchase that service if it were available internationally?

Actually, it's a bit different.

* For US and Canada: "NBA League Pass BROADBAND" is a part of "NBA League Pass", and you get TV+Broadband for about 179$

Two pages:
http://www.nba.com/broadband/league_pass.jsp (old)
http://www.nba.com/leaguepass/index.html (new)

* For other countries (but only 16 were announced last year): you can buy ""NBA League Pass BROADBAND"" as a stand-alone product.
It was $5.95 for a daily pass, and $129 for the season ($99 last season as it started with a little delay).

Meanwhile, lots of the few lucky people being in the lucky countries got some problems, and some did not succeed to get games the last weeks of the regular season.

You can still go on the page:
http://www.nba.com/broadband/league_pass_int.jsp (you may need to clear your browser cache first to see the right page).

The supposed countries were:
1. Australia 2. Belgium 3. Czech Republic 4. Denmark 5. Finland 6. Greece 7. Hungary 8. India 9. Netherlands 10. New Zealand 11. Norway 12. Poland 13. Portugal 14. Serbia 15. Sweden 16. UK

I don't know if it was working for all the 16 countries, ad don't know if it will be extended this year.
But it's sure the NBA is completely out of reality, they have to realize more countries want it, some games being already on TV or not.
