Attn: ALL General Board Posters ( Please Read)

General Board Posters,

A few things to help us ALL make this board and site a better place on the web. :D

As of late, this board is getting cluttered with a lot of topics that fit elsewhere, and not on this board. We mods have no issues moving certain threads to their rightful board, but when the same posters create the same type of threads who have been here for quite some time, it does get rather annoying, but more importantly the Gen Board gets cluttered with unnecessary topics that are better fit for discussion elsewhere. From here on out, certain threads that can be moved will be moved to the rightful place, but others that are blatant topics as listed below, will be locked and/or deleted.

1) Boards/Forums

We have the following boards, in addition to many others....

a Player Comparisons Board for topics that deal with comparing players with other players, or current players with HOFs/GOATs, or comparing Team X vs Team Y , or if you could build a player with X and Y, and other comparison like topics.

a Trade/Transaction Board that is for topics that deal with trade scenarios of any kind, unless they have already occurred or close to occurring, and they would be just fine here on the General Board. But, any other trade related idea/post needs to go on the Trade Board.

an International Board that is for topics that deal with international players and their dealings with the game of basketball, unless it has direct correlation to the NBA, it is fine to be placed here on the General Board.

an NCAA Board for all things related to college basketball.

Link to NCAA Board: viewforum.php?f=36

an Off-Topic Board where if the topic has nothing to do with the game directly should be placed there; i.e. – Dwyane Wade’s new day-time talk show featuring Star Jones & Oprah .

2) Starting Threads/Topics

In addition, when it comes to starting threads adhere to the following:

-Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.

-Members should use an appropriate, descriptive title when posting a new topic. Examples of bad titles include; "Huge Trade!", "Look Here!", "Check this out!", etc.

-Spam is not tolerated here under any circumstance. Users posting spam will be banned and their post removed.

The administrators and moderators reserve the right to edit or remove any post at any time. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to Moderators and not users.

3) Posting News Articles

As stated in theforum rules, users shall not upload, post or otherwise make available on RealGM.com any material protected by copyright, trademark, or other proprietary right. Users shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights, proprietary rights, or any other harm resulting from such a submission. In simpler terms, no Insider or similar articles from subscription services can be posted. Newspapers, magazines and other online news articles are allowed.

If you wish to quote from a news article please follow these guidelines:

-Quotes can be no longer than 3 paragraphs from any source.
-The author of the material should be given credit.
-A link to the articles source MUST be present in your post.
-Members who knowingly post fake or fraudulent news articles with the intention of disrupting the flow of dialogue in a forum will be warned/suspended

Basically, what we're trying to get across aside from this professional mumbu jumbo is, PLEASE take a second to think about what you're posting, how you're getting that point across, and where you are posting it. -- Us mods are ALSO posters just like you, and we too hate clutter and silly threads/topics as much as you guys.

As always, if there are any questions/concerns/comments please free to reach out to any of us.

To go along with the previous post addressing the proper place for certain threads, we'd also like to add the following...

There has been a noticeable increase in the amount of trash-threads lately and it is bringing down the collective IQ of the General NBA Board. We are not implementing a rule or anything but we strongly urge posters to put a little more thought into the threads they choose to start. It should be known that a thread started with one or more of the following elements has a high probability of being locked.....

- 1 sentence with little to no substance
- clear baiting (which is against the TOS)
- Exclamatory (ie: unnecessary use of exclamation points to draw attention)
- A copy of another thread (ie: Um, _____ is legit / Did ____ break the ____'s swag?)

- The general premise can be put into a currently existing thread
