Re: Best Coach Leading A Team Lacking Star Power
I have to say, I think Jerry Sloan is one of the most underappreciated coaches in the NBA, he has always had his players play well. Remember Shandon Anderson or Howard Eisley, they were legit back up players who helped the Jazz reach the finals twice. When they both left, they ended up sucking. So I have to give props to Jerry Sloan.

Yeah, but it didn't hurt that he had Stockton and Malone as well as Hornacek.

In my opinion, the 5 best coaches in the NBA are:
Greg Popovich
Phil Jackson
Jerry Sloan
Larry Brown
Doc Rivers
Basically, it's obvious out of those 5 who has the least-talented team.

Anderson played very well for the Rockets after he left Utah, he sucked cause he got old.

Reckon Doc Rivers in Orlando in 1999-2000 has that beat - rotation of Darrell Armstrong, Ron Mercer, Chucky Atkins, Monty Williams, Corey Maggette (rook), Bo Outlaw, Ben Wallace and John Amaechi.
How that team won 41 games and averaged over 100ppg on pretty much hustle alone is anyone's guess.

Coaches can't teach hustle..
Doc is overrated.

i think some coaches get a bad rap because their teams have so called superstars. I think it takes a special type of coach to be able to coach superstars well. Obviously you are not going to have the same results with the Celtics last year if you had PJ Carlisemo coaching that team.

D'Antoni
Scott Skiles had the league convinced that a Hinrich, Deng, Gordon team were the team to beat in the East... Just saying...

Before last year everyone said Doc Rivers would never lead the Celtics to a championship.
