Haywood Apologizes For Marbury Comments

Aug 19, 2009 7:42 AM EST

Wizards center Brendan Haywood has issued a public apology for comments he made about Stephon Marbury recently.

In a radio interview, Haywood criticized Marbury for his recent video blogs, calling them "distributing" and making a number of comments hinting towards homosexuality.

"My last blog about some of Stephon Marbury's actions, combined with a radio interview that I did, have been misinterpreted by some as speaking out against homosexuality. I've received some comments and so have the Wizards about it. I just wanted to take a time out and let you know that no disrespect was intended," Haywood wrote on Yardbarker.

For those who don't remember, Hardaway made some gay bashing comments a couple seasons ago and there was a severe backlash against him.

"I was just trying to have fun with a crazy situation. I don't support or condemn homosexuality and I believe in everyone making choices for themselves. If it doesn't affect me, I don't really care. I hope no one was offended because I wasn't trying to come off like Tim Hardaway."

that's hilarious.... He apologizes to one guy, and ends up insulting another.

Tomorrow, "Haywood apologizes for Tim Hardaway comments"

Errr....you don't remember Haywood essentially calling Lebron a crybaby for complaining about the Wizards playing rough in the playoffs 2 years ago? That was classic :)

And there's really nothing for him to apologize in this case for. I believe Hardaway said openly that he's a homophobe.

He openly said on a radio station that he doesn't like gay people. And its not like he pussyfooted around it, he literally said "I don't like gay people". I believe there might be more that he said in regards to this, but i cannot remember. But I'm sure you get the gist of it. lol

I think Haywood is my new favorite player, this guy is pure comedy gold! his apology is more insulting then the actual comments he's apologizing for!

This is the best sports apology since Hector Macho Camacho apologized to Tyson for Calling him the N word, which was more insulting than his original comments! :

http://www.streetgangs.com/race/wont-yo ... ga-double/

On June 9, 1997 during a tour to promote his September 13, 1997 bout with Oscar De La Hoya, Hector Camacho was asked his opinion of Mike Tyson after he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear in their 1997 rematch earlier that year. Camacho responded in part by saying, “That’s what Mike’s problem is, he’s got too many ‘ni ggas’ around him.” For many, that was an unexpected and inappropriate response. Two days later he felt the need to clear up what he said so that there was no misunderstanding, but in his attempt to apologize for what many believed was an inappropriate use of words, he just dug a bigger ditch when stating:

“And I also want to clear up a little thing that the people are repeating around about ni ggers, OK, when I made the comments about Mike Tyson, they asked me, “What do you think about Mike and what is going to happen to Mike?” I said Mike is a very unhappy character. Instead of having classy African-American people with class who make him look good, he got all these ni gger-attitude people around him that make him act the way he does, like a little beast. And he ain’t. I love Mike. He’s a great man.” (June 11, 1997)
