Jackson " I feel like im just as good as him" on Kobe

Postby Ace626 on Thu Oct 15, 2009 1:43 am

" “I’m not going to bow down," said Jackson. "I’m not a fan of Kobe. I’m not somebody who looks up to him. I’m a grown man myself. So when I go out there and play the game, I play the game. I feel like I’m just as good as him. I might not get the publicity or notoriety he gets, but I feel like I can play with anybody in the NBA any given night.”"

Per Wiretap

Other quotes he had regarding that game

Basically, to beat a dead horse, (Bryant) was just playing dirty," Jackson said. "He was getting favoritism out there. I'm not saying the refs were cheating. I'm not saying that at all. I think he was getting away with stuff that I couldn't get away with. And I didn't think it was fair."

This guy is begging to become a victim of a 82 point game

Jeez, totally misconstruing everything.

RealGM has become the master of spinning a quote, kind of sad. =/

I don't understand why you're laughing. Jax is not the prolific scorer Kobe is but he's a still a stud and I don't see Kobe stopping him either. Nothing wrong with a player like Jax having confidence in his game. He doesnt owe Kobe jack ****.

Bryant does get away with a lot of dirty plays and I love it when players go public about it. He shouldn't bow down to Bryant; if Kobe sticks him then Jax should give right back in his grill. I was elated when Raja choked slammed that fool in response to his elbow throwing drives.

don't really have a problem with this. its good to be confident, and he didn't take it to the cocky level.

Yeah, this isn't really that big of a deal when you read it in context.

What's wrong with a player having a little confidence?

Ppl forget these are grown men in a profession, these guys aren't fans. You're not gonna get many players in the NBA who kiss any other players asses. Its like if Bob from the office is the best programmer you have...when your boss asks you whats up, you're gonna say "yeah of course I can do the job like Bob".

What's the problem? He steps on the same court as Kobe, but he can't feel like he's as good as him? He's right in what he says.

Not everyone is an obsessive hero worshiper you know.

Oh please , get out of here
You've obliviously never played ball ( with good competition )
Playing dirty is part of the game , EVERYONE does it , dont be naive thinking any good basketball player out there plays cleaned

Kobe is more of a old-school type player , player nowadays are bunch of pussys in my opinion , of the slightest contact they get there pantys up in a bunch
and yea i laugh at this , cause JAX is no where near kobes level , and i cant wait till lakers vs golden state during the season this year ( if his sorry ass is still on the team )

He isn't expected to bow down, but respect sometimes needs to be given when it comes to playing on the court. I think Jax get frustrated as HE thinks he is as good as Kobe, but clearly isn't. It's jealousy. When someone says I'm not jealsous blah, blah, blah, it's jealousy.

I don't know what the OP is laughing at, glad to see most feel the same way.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

So Jackson said that when he steps on the floor he is on the same level as a player who he competes against and that is wrong why?

It's the NBA every player should step on the floor and say they are just as good as the next player. Did people forget what competition is about? It's not like he's saying he's one of the GOAT's or anything. Just that as a competitor in the same profesion he is just as good. I mean should he just let say that he isn't as good as Vince Carter or T-Mac or CP3 etc??? It's the NBA man. Every player should step out there with that type of confidence.

Some people don't know what confidence, determination, hard work and will are. Grow up people. The whole Jackson bashing thing is getting rediculous also. He has made some questionable moves but he is being put under a microscope now to drive attention away from what a mess that Warriors team is right now. Like I said, more players in the NBA should have that type of confidence. Can you picture Magic or Bird saying either were better? What about Bill Lambier saying Mark Eaton was better then him. MJ cowarding down to Bird, Nique, Magic, Thomas, Richmond, Drexler or those plaeyers doing the same. Russell or Wilt saying that one was better then the other? Willis Reed not walking out to play on messed up hip? Shaq or TD saying that someone other then those 2 didn't dominate a entire decade? The under man Pistons of Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Sheed and Big Ben didn't stand a chance against the 4 HOF's Payton, Malone, Kobe and Shaq?

When you step on the field of sports you and the person you are against are competitors. Play like it. The NBA would be better. If you don't beleive it look at history. It's given us great upsets and great lagacies that were earned not given or handed out to players like it is now. Respect is earned not given.
