Wolves Offered Pacers Al Jeff for Danny Granger - Rejected

Post#1 » by retrospect24 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 9:52 pm

Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn recently offered forward Al Jefferson to the Indiana Pacers for forward Danny Granger, but was immediately rebuffed, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

While Pacers president Larry Bird remains determined to build around Granger, sources say Kahn has become increasingly dubious on making Jefferson a cornerstone for the Timberwolves.

So far, Kahn has tried to undo almost everything from the Kevin McHale regime, and trading Jefferson would be another significant step in that direction.

Minnesota also has chemistry issues between Jefferson and forward Kevin Love. “There’s some jealous stuff that’s playing out,” one league source said.

Interesting. Both Jefferson and Granger are best suited to be 2nd options IMO.

But between them I think Granger is the better overall player, I wouldn't have done that swap either.

Quickly finding out your stud big man isn't as good as you thought, eh Kahn? Maybe you shouldn't have acted like an arrogant douche in the media when Phoenix offered you Amare for Al and a pick this past summer...

I'd rather have Granger too but this was probably rejected out of need too. Granger fits overwhelmingly more than Jefferson on the Wolves, while Granger fits way more than Jefferson on the Pacers and Obie's system

Will be interesting to see if anything more comes out of this. For example if Kahn is willing to take Ford or Dunleavy in the swap...

Granger is the better player and Big Al wouldn't be a good fit on the Pacers, considering they already have Hibbert and Murphy.

Meh they got Hibbert. He's a decent post presence. The TWolves need Granger a ton more than the Pacers need Al Jeff.

Pacers were dumb not to do this trade.

How? I like Big Al more than Granger, but I realize Granger fits better on both teams.

Z-Bo > Big Al so Kahn can't really expect much back.

Pacers front court is weak. With Big AL you now have an established big down the block who can score and some interchangeable wings and guards that's a much better balanced team on the floor than what you would have with Granger.

psst Kahn the Bulls will give you Tyrus and some fillers for Al Jefferson. Tyrus can dunk and block shots.

Our front court is only weak defensively and Jefferson doesn't help that. Roy Hibbert is doing just fine as a post player for us, just ask Dwight Howard or Tim Duncan.

that sucks. if we have to move Al, I would prefer we at do it in the offseason for a top 3-5 pick.

I'm kinda glad this didn't go through, I have a bad vibe on Granger, I could see him playing at a high level for perhaps another four years, just long enough to secure another big contract and then all of a sudden the wheels fall off the cart. Not based in fact, just a hunch. Maybe Al will have similar problems I don't know. All I do know is that right now the thought of trading Big Al bums me out.

Of course they did. Granger is the far superior player.

I am hearing that this is not a true rumor, but just media speculation. The wolves are receiving a lot of calls, but they are not making calls until the off season.

Wolves don`t know what they have in Al. Let the guy get to 100% first. He is the best low post scorer in the game...You don`t trade away a player like that. You build around him.

It is true however that he isn`t the best fit for the triangle offense. But no player on Minny is. Flynn isn`t, Rubio even less, Kahn really blew it with Rambis. You need to get a coach who suits the players or the players who fit the coaches` philosophy. ATM, the wolves "make no sense"...
