Sure. He's hardly alone in that, of course, but yes, he has some work to do there. Particularly when he's cold from 3, or in general on a cold streak. Looking to see that next evolution.

Yes same here, he seems comfortable playing this way. We will see.

That was a really interesting game. He did almost nothing inside the arc and out of the paint, but he used the whole key. He had shots in the circle, foul line jumpers, a baseline shot outside of the key, was hella hot from 3, and just rammed it into Philly's teeth and got himself to the line.

THAT Tatum was a monster.

2x All-NBA 1st team, 4th and 6th in MVP voting last 2 years, been to 4 ECF's (atleast 3 as the best player), went to a Finals

The 2022 playoff run featured him essentially ending the "Kevin Durant is the best player in the world" argument in a signature playoff series as well as a signature playoff game where he "out-dueled" Giannis in Game 6 by dropping 46 (28 in the 2nd half) to dethrone the defending Champs in a 7 game series.

~4th in MVP odds playing on the team 1st/2nd in Title Odds

It has been a hell of a start to this guy's career. I am very interested to see if that there is another level he can get to.

So the Celtics finished with 64 wins and a 10+ SRS. Their 5-man lineup of Jrue/White/Brown/Tatum/KP was +11.3 during the regular season. They took care of the Butler-less Heat in 5 and are on the verge of yet another conference Finals appearance.

Yet, Tatum just finished a distant 6th in the MVP vote and it seems like people have just accepted that he isn’t “that” guy.

60+ win teams since 2010 (best player finish in MVP voting)
2024 BOS: Tatum (6th)
2022 PHO: Booker (4th)
2019 MIL: Giannis (1st)
2018 HOU: Harden (1st)
2017 SAS: Kawhi (3rd)
2017 GSW: Curry (6th)
2016 GSW: Curry (1st)
2016 SAS: Kawhi (2nd)
2015 GSW: Curry (1st)
2015 ATL: None (total outlier squad that year)
2014 SAS: Duncan/Parker (12th) - such a great overall team
2013 MIA: LeBron (1st)
2013 OKC: Durant (2nd)
2012 SAS: Parker (4th)
2012 CHI: Rose (12th)
2011 CHI: Rose (1st) - what a young beast he was
2011 SAS: Manu (8th) - 4th different Spurs player on this list
2010: LeBron (1st) - an absolute monster

Non-Top 5 MVP finishes goes to the old guard of the Spurs, that one random great Hawks season, Rose when he got Hurt after winning MVP the previous season, and Curry in 2017 after he won 2 MVPs in a row and they added Durant.

Devin Booker even got more respect than Tatum in ‘22. Tatum is just out here doing his thing though. He’s not in the best player convo. Luka is already ahead of him and SGA just passed him as a wing, with Ant coming. But Tatum is simply doing what needs to be done.

He’s in a very unique spot as a player. He’s dropped monster playoff games on Giannis to win a series, he ended the “KD is the best player” convo by straight up winning that matchup (underrated performance), he’s very likely headed to his 5th CF as a 26 year old.

And yet, he just seems to be on the periphery of best player arguments. 104 playoff games through his age 25/26 season is nuts.

Just a really interesting player historically. If Boston finishes it off this year, it becomes even more hard to gauge him. Great player but exactly how great?

Top 10 player, he just needs to be more consistent and not have those 3-14 FG type of games in key games. His performance in 2022 Finals hurt him but yes he has beaten some great players, teams over years and has some great moments. If the Celtics win it all, I think it will get more favor in the MVP voting next season.
