I think the argument for West is that he's just the better all around player and also has superior size, athleticism, defense, competitor to some degree and out of that was the more resilient playoff performer. I don't think we are beholden to team results when we compare two players. We are more than capable of using that whether its rings or whatever but I don't think there's anything wrong with just using a personal/subjective holistic way of just trying to decide which player is better where team success isn't a major factor. Though of course with West he did win one ring and came awfully close a few other times which includes some bad luck with injuries.
Not that I necessarily have West ahead of Curry but just giving an argument for having him ahead. He may be the more complete player and more consistent playoff performer and then you can also theorize around what if he'd played in an era with a 3pt shot.
