As of right now, I would take Sarr with the #1 pick. Sarr could be a Billionaire's version of John Collins, but to play devils advocate...... What makes Sarr any different than Ayton coming out of Arizona?

Ayton has been criticized that he is not competitive and not a hard worker or gym rat. Has Sarr or any prospect shown any of these red flags?

To play devil's advocate, here are the last 10 center's to go #1 overall...

Olowokandi
Kwame
Yao
Dwight
Bogut
Bargnani
Oden
Towns
Ayton
Wembanyama

7 were busts, only 3 were actually the best player in there draft. So that is a 30% success rate.

Yao, Dwight, Towns, Wemby are absolutely not busts. Ayton has been close to a 20/10 player and put up very solid numbers on a winning team, he just has a bad work ethic. If he cared at all he would be an all-star. I wouldn't call Bogut a bust, he was probably the 3rd or 4th best player in that draft. Oden was ruined by injuries or he would've been an all-star. That can happen to anyone. I would say 4 on your list are busts.

BTW a 30% chance of getting the best player in a draft is pretty damn good. There are 60+ players drafted each year. I'm not going to do all the research, but it's probably the same odds when taking a guard or forward #1 too.

Someone drafted in the teens or 20s, or even 2nd round will turn out to be an all-star, but we won't know who that is for years.

I have Yao as a bust because he was the 3rd best player in his draft class, his injuries, and he didn't make his team better or into a contender. Basically empty stats like Kevin Love. He also didn't deserve any of his All Star appearances over Shaq, only got voted in because of the China vote.

He's only 19, get him on a weight lifting program and bulk up a bit and this dude will be a monster. I'm tired of having lane cloggers playing C. Everyone's efficiency will improve if we unclog the lane. Having a C that can space the floor will improve Trae's efficiency immensely.
Care to elaborate on the amount you've watched him play?

As much as I've watched any other prospect, mostly hightlights. My post was probably a bit harsh but I just don't see how you can pass on him.

I do like Risacher too but to me he doesn't have the potential of Sarr. If Sarr has any work ethic he's going to be a beast IMO.

Like i said before, I would pick Sarr right now, but you have to look at the other prospects because you don't want to get into that Ayton/Luka situation or Oden/Durant situation or even Olowokandi/Jamison situation......

Yao made the playoffs 4 times in 7 years, Kevin Love never made the playoffs in Minnesota. Yao was also paired with equally injured Tmac, if healthy that team competes. Yao was a winning player, just look at his plus/minus. Injuries can happen to anyone though.

I don't think this applies to just big men. It's just as unlikely the #1 pick is the best player in the draft at any position because there are 60 other players drafted in each year. I would almost always take the field in a non LeBron/Wemby type draft. But which one or two of those 59 other players will be better? We don't know. The #1 is almost always at least a solid player and one of the top guys in each draft.

I also like how you only included "Centers". It's about BIGS. Guys like Anthony Davis, Paolo, Griffin, Tim Duncan, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Shaq, Webber, Hakeem, etc. There is a pretty good success rate for BIGS taken at #1. Of course there are busts too. The same can be said for guards and forwards. Just seemed very cherry picky, I don't think this stat really means anything.

This kid may not be a star in the making, but the defensive capabilities are undeniable.

Defensive upside. Sarr has excellent hip movement, and much more agile as a defender. You could switch everything with him.
