L.A. Clippers Trade Proposal

Post#1 » by loflin3hree5ive » Tue Jan 8, 2008 10:19 pm

Clippers Get:
Josh Childress
Tyronn Lue
Anthony Johnson
Lorenzen Wright

Hawks Get:
Corey Maggette
Sam Cassell
Dan Dickau

hawks probably won't resign childress this summer w/ all the big contracts they're going to have to start handing out soon. acquiring maggette makes the hawks better on paper for a playoff run this year since they're likely to lose chill this summer anyway, renting maggette makes sense for them. cassell puts them over the top for a playoff spot. hawks take no extra salary past this season.

clippers acquire a glue guy in childress who would probably be their shooting guard of the future. he'll likely be cheaper to re-sign than maggette and is younger which is something the clippers are looking for.

hawks
c-horford
pf-marvin
sf-josh
sg-maggette
pg-cassell

clippers
c-kaman
pf-brand
sf-thornton
sg-childress
pg-knight

Of course we'd do that.

If we can't get higher value for Chillz, I'd probably make that deal without AJ in it. We can't give him up and hand over the reigns to IV when we're in a playoff race.

Cassell would be the starter.

The thing I love about this trade proposal is Maggette....He's much better than Chil and he could get us similiar if not more value than Harrington got us in a sign and trade.

lol- I have been playing with a similar trade idea but I thought that people would fiip out about acquiring Maggette because he isn't an outside shooter. So I have been trying to work 3 way trades to make it happen but nothing has clicked.

I think if it were Shelden instead of AJ the clippers would at least strongly consider it.

But when it comes down to it, are maggette and marvin really different enough to warrant having both on the team? Is there someone else that Maggette could be flipped to for some outside shooting?

You forgot Joe Johnson in our lineup. Maggette would probably split time backing him and Marvin up which would give him similar minutes to Chillz.

Well he got the lineups wrong. I hope that he didn't mean JJ instead of AJ, I thought it was weird that AJ AND Lue were involved.

I think he was just using expiring deals and therefore had AJ.

I'd counter with:
Childress
Lue
Wright
Shelden Williams
for
Maggette
Cassell
Josh Powell
Right to swap 2nd round picks next year

Given Cassell injury potential the shipping AJ out leaves us in a potential Law only situation (no love for Dickau). Keepigng AJ allows us to have a vet at PG on the court more often. Powell doesn't have the weight of Shelden, but rebounds at about the same clip.

Our lineup at the end:
PG Cassell/AJ/Law
SG JJ/West/Salim
SF Maggette/Marvin
PF Smith/Powell
C Horford/Zaza/Jones

I sign Rod Benson from the D-league as a backup big to fill the open roster spot. The swap of 2nd rounders is to give a better shot at Joey Dorsey or Taj Gibson next year, but isn't a sticking point for me.

I do it because Maggette while not a 3 pt shooter can create his own shot in the half court and can get to the basket (which is why he shoots over 8 FTs a game). That should help alleviate some pressure on Joe. Cassell is a rental that could give the team so swagger.

I do the first trade, but I keep AJ and they keep DD.
