Final Report Cards for Each NBA Team

Atlanta Hawks: D+

Record: 36-46
Preseason Over-Under: 42.5

The lasting impression from this Atlanta Hawks campaign will almost certainly be the lack of effectiveness from Trae Young-Dejounte Murray lineups.

Many (including yours truly) were convinced that a full training camp with coach Quin Snyder and a little more time for Young and Murray to adapt to each other might make the backcourt jell. But it just didn't.

In fact, the combination was worse this season. When they shared the floor, Atlanta was minus-4.7 points per 100 possessions. It was minus-0.8 when Murray played without Young, and plus-4.0 when Young played without Murray.

And thanks to a late-season surge without the injured Young, the team finished 14-14 in games he missed. It was 22-32 when he was in the lineup.

That's almost certainly going to lead to trade rumors surrounding both guards this summer, and given Young's age (25) and individual production, he'd likely fetch the Hawks the bigger return.

This season wasn't all bad, though. One player who almost certainly won't generate trade speculation this summer is Jalen Johnson, who broke out with 16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists, is just 22 and looks ready for a three-and-D-plus role going forward.

And with him, Onyeka Okongwu and whatever Atlanta can command for Young and Murray, the Hawks might actually have a decent foundation for a rebuild going forward.

Eh... who's going to tell them that we traded away 3 years of our future FRPs starting next season.

Unless SA really wants Trae; no rebuild. I think that they will keep cah cow Trae and move Murray to give the illusion of doing something. Won't help though. Hawks don't have a path to big improvement unless JJ becomes Tatum like and we find an offensively competant C

Crazy part about this, is that we never got the star player we have now to build around, yet we still found a way by acquiring the right talents and eventually a quality HC. I think we have the coach part down, but need the FO to acquire the talents now.

We're not completely devoid of picks or talent.

Just need a better mix.

With Quin, Trae, Jalen, Okongwu and Bogdan onboard, it really seems like a strong lineup of scorers and facilitators. We just need to add depth in the front court and a 3&D wing in the SF spot.

Owner: cheap, money grabbing man that puts his 20 something year old in a leadership FO with his buddies
FO: see above
Team: 10 games under .500 this season and capped out
Future: Need to cut some salary this offseason to be able to afford #1 pick. Three seasons without our own picks. 2025 we will get a SAC late teens pick. 2026 we will get a 20s Spurs pick. Next Hawks FRP 2027

Given the owner that will not spend, our current team that can't even make the playoffs, a ridiculous FO and our FRP deficiency this could be a 5-6 year of ugly Hawk's period coming up before any hope of better

I just don't get Resseler. He spent big on infra-structure and coaching. Both very important to franchise success. But he completely failed on this FO and is 100% lux tax adverse.... I would love to ask him what his vision is to the Hawks contending

Easy, he likes the $15 million he gets as a non-tax paying team from the other teams that do.
