Still think he's battling some injuries. I'd give him an offseason with Synder and consider moving him if he doesn't fit.

Game 2
38 minutes
18pt
12 rebs

Great numbers except

4 turnovers
2 for 9 from three.

$20m is his salary next season.

Hope he can have a repeat performance rebounding the ball next game.

Celtics game 3, shows why Bey should get paid and not Hunter.

Dre was AWFUL on offense, but he did keep Tatum in check...and can we do something about these sliding screens, it's not football.

If we were allowed, I'd look to trade this kid now...in the middle of the playoffs.

He needs a minimum of 14 attempts per game. He performs much better like most would when they know they're going to get touches. His salary doubles next season. Another Hawk that will make $20m or more. Imagine paying a guy $20+ million and they only average 12 or less attempts per game.

I wanted him to be the second offensive option at the start of the season, for two reasons:
- we need offensive threat from back court and front court
- to avoid having Murray as second offensive option, and focus him on defense and PG without Trae as much as possible

They didn't run like that, and now, Hunter gets more shots in playoffs than in regular season, but Trae-Murray continue to take more than 40 shots per game... what's left to other?
The more energy both put on offense, the less they will have on defense, and even if they try (real improvement from Trae on this side), Trae won't be a great defender at PG, and Murray won't be a great defender at SG

Evil Dallas was a long time poster here at RealGM over a decade ago..

He makes a valid point here regarding Hunter:

Here's hoping all the trade talk has motivated him to take his game to the next level...as a Hawk!

DH doesn't have explosive burst coming out of his stance. He should just adopt a physical style of play ala Butler, Leonard, etc. Just pack on enough mass as possible. Skills are there but trying to play finesse isn't his best attribute.

After his big pay day, lets see if Hunter finally takes that big leap we have all been waiting for, or if he becomes another John Collins 2.0

If there's no leaps with his game we move find away to move on without it costing us. He's making $20m and that's going to be difficult to move.

I used to have the same concern about Hunter's contract.

But in a world where the second best player on the Boston Celtics now averages $60+ million per season -- I suspect it might be easier to move than we think.

:jawdrop:

Ranking the NBA's Most Overrated Players since 2018

3. De'Andre Hunter -- Hawks

After being selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 draft, De'Andre Hunter has started all but six of his career games with the Atlanta Hawks.

As recently as last summer, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that he and Trae Young were the only untouchables on the Hawks roster.

He's even been compared to Kawhi Leonard.

But the reality of Hunter hasn't quite lived up to any of that. A 13.9-point career scoring average is solid, but his three-point percentage is below average, and his ancillary contributions are almost nonexistent.

Among the 394 players with 2,000-plus minutes during his career, he's tied for 341st in assist percentage. Since bringing up that rank may not be fair (given the fact that he plays with Young), it's also worth noting that he's 255th in that group in rebounding percentage, 341st in steal percentage and 268th in block percentage.

In other words, Hunter has to do more to warrant his position in the core of a team that should be a perennial playoff team with Young on the books.
