OT: Huerter on the trade block in Sacramento?

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:05 pm

Kid was my favorite of the new crop of Hawks.

Glad to see he's doing well in Cali.

Huerter becomes instant fan favorite in explosive Kings debut

In 28 minutes and 48 seconds, Kevin Huerter quickly became a fan favorite during his Kings debut at Golden 1 Center on Wednesday night. S

The Kings sharpshooter drained his first 3-pointer 123 seconds into the game. After that, it was lights out from behind the arc for the 6-foot-7 guard.

It got to a point where as soon as the ball landed in Huerter’s hands, fans got on their feet and foreshadowed what was to come.

Splash.

Huerter finished with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and made 6 of 9 3-pointers. He also had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

The Kings lost the game 115-108, a game they very much could have won. And even when it felt out of reach, there was Huerter draining a 3-pointer with a hand directly in his face with 14.7 seconds left in the game.

Good for him. Like most of our wings, we were looking for consistency night in night out, just didn't get it.
Cam also had a decent game - a game tying 3 to send the game into overtime.
Bruno had a good game as well.
Their teams all lost though.

Right, but not bad when they were on the floor
Bruno and Cam at -1, and SAC were at +16 with Huerter

We didn't get enough in return for Kevin Huerter...

Red-hot Huerter living up to billing as Kings' 3-point savior

Image

In his first six games in a Kings uniform, Kevin Huerter has been as advertised. And then some.I

Acquired by Sacramento for Justin Holiday, Moe Harkless and a future first-round pick in a trade four months ago, Huerter was general manager Monte McNair’s primary answer for the Kings’ 3-point shooting woes last season.

In six contests, Huerter is averaging a career-high 18.3 points, 4.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 30.8 minutes per game. 52 NBA players have attempted at least 40 3-pointers this season, but none have converted at a higher clip than Huerter (52.3 percent).

Huerter has knocked down a total of 25 triples, tied with Buddy Hield last season for the most in Kings franchise history through six games. He is the lone NBA player to notch four games with at least five 3-pointers this season.

In short: The dude can't miss.
Spoiler:
"I’m getting a lot of these shots in the flow of our offense," Huerter said following Sacramento's first win of the season Saturday, a much-needed 119-113 triumph over the Miami Heat. "That’s the biggest thing for me, just working for shots. The more I can move and space the floor, the easier it is for everybody else.

"A lot of these shots are in the flow of what we’re trying to do. I’m just knocking them down."

Huerter was at his best against Miami, draining 7 of 8 attempts from deep for a season-high 27 points, just two shy of his career-best 29. He returned two days later on Halloween and dropped five more triples and 26 points.

Both performances resulted in wins.

His overall impact on the Kings' offensive output has been incredible through six games.

Sacramento is averaging a jaw-dropping 43.8 more points per 100 possessions when Huerter is on the floor compared to when he's on the bench, per Cleaning the Glass.

Which is great for him is that he's doing that with the same playing time he got with ATL, a bit more than 30min per game (his average over the last 3 seasons here).
He only takes 2 more shots per game (a bit less 2pts shots, and 2 more 3pts shots), maybe more systems for him, but he's not playing more

Kevon is killing it! It's just too bad that his defense was never good enough to play along side Trae, but i'll always be a fan and hope the best for him.

Right, and I stil don't understand why he was paired with Trae instead of coming off the bench and play with Wright who was a good defender...
OK, Wright is not passing like Trae so Kevin would not have got the same kind of assist, but it's a bit strange

Kevin Durant just made an eye-opening statement about Kevin Huerter

Durant has taken notice of how well his namesake is playing in his first season with the Sacramento Kings.

"You gotta chase off Kevin Huerter. Kevin Heurter, right now, he's playing like Klay, Steph," Durant said in a video on Boardroom, the sports, tech and pop culture site he co-owns. "If you're not a basketball fan and locked in on the league, you gotta watch how Kevin Huerter is shooting this ball right now."

Praise doesn't get much higher than an all-time great comprising Huerter to two of the game's greatest shooters. Huerter, who was traded to Sacramento after three years with the Atlanta Hawks, is shooting a torrid 49.5 percent from three-point range, ranking seventh in the league, and he's doing it at high volume; his 7.4 attempts per game are more than anyone else in the top 10 in three-point percentage is attempting.

"The way he's coming off the handoff and shooting the basketball right now, if you're not a basketball fan and locked in on the league, you gotta watch how Kevin Huerter' shooting this ball right now. He's in the 50s and like, when you go through scout, you hear all these stats and everybody sounds way better than they are in scout," he said. "But Kevin Huerter's shooting seven threes a game, seven or eight, and they're all at 50 percent. When you hear that, and then you watch the clips and film and shots he shooting, it's just like, 'Oh ****, we're in for a long night."

Huerter, nicknamed "Red Velvet" for his hair color and soft shooting stroke, is averaging 16.6 points per game -- by far a career-high, helping the upstart Kings to a 10-6 start. Last October, Huerter and the Hawks agreed to a four-year, $65 million deal that seemingly would keep him in the Peach State for a while. But the team traded for all-star guard Dejounte Murray, diminishing his role, and then sent him to Sacramento.

Which is the bigger sin:

  • Not using Huerter to his full potential for the past 4 years here
  • Or just gifting away what is now considered a top level asset in exchange for unproductive role players and conditional picks?

If Huerter couldn't hit wise open 3s, that is entirely on him. He was unreliable.

Huerter talks about time with Hawks.

57:30 - Talks how he got notified about trade.

1:08 - Talks Game 7 vs Sixers: team was beat up, Bogi wasn't supposed to play, Gallo who is a man of few words told him in locker room he needed to shoot the ball, that they wouldn't win if he didn't, pointed at Bogi and said ' he can't move'. Philly fans were throwing stuff with 10 seconds left in game.

Thoughts on bringing back Kevin Huerter?
Would you be willing to send back their own draft pick for him?

With the uncertain direction of the team at the moment, I'd rather just keep the pick. Easier to trade the pick than Kevin.

Not the wrong sentiment; I'm thinking that if we trade Bogdan, Huerter can be a younger/cheaper replacement who already has ties to our locker room.

Also, we only 5 months to trade that dfraft pick. Huerter has years remaining under contract to revive his trade value.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
