For one thing, Shai Gilgeous Alexander hasn't ever made the playoffs before this week...

I stand corrected.

SGA has played in multiple postseasons...

He's just been hot garbage in the playoffs before this year.

Heat trading for Trae Young would give Jimmy Butler another chance at a championship

Trae Young has been dismissed as an empty stats player. That narrative would change if he were in a Miami Heat jersey

Image

The Miami Heat have two top-10 offensive rating finishes in the Jimmy Butler era. Teams like San Antonio have this grand idea that Trae Young would not fit their future, but the Heat do not have that luxury.

The diminutive dynamic playmaker has led the Hawks to a top-10 offense three times in his career, with a top two finish in 2022.

Trae would be the perfect fit in Miami due to his generational playmaking

It's no secret that the Miami Heat offense needs a boost. Here are the offensive rating finishes in the Jimmy Butler Era:

  • 2020: 7th
  • 2021: 18th
  • 2022: 10th
  • 2023: 25th
  • 2024: 26th
The last two years have been putrid. The 25th and 26th offense isn't enough for Miami to reach their goal. Young immediately steps in and covers a lot of holes. The Bam Adebayo and Trae Young pairing would be a glove fit.

These parties need each other. The Heat need an offensive conductor, and Trae Young needs a team with elite defenders, snipers, and a set culture. This would be a win-win for both sides.

Funny how the narrative changes with just a jersey change.
Hawks need to get to work building a team around him.

TIL that the Heat won't have to give up anything for Trae.

He is still under contract for these next 3 seasons. Lakers don't have enough to offer.

Why does this video seem familiar to me?
For some reason I think this is the same video from last season's playoffs.

Trae Young has an opt out clause 2 summers from now.

With only 2 years left under team control, he could make things very uncomfortable for the Hawks over the next 12 months.

That is still 2 years of team control. Without our picks we can't be giving in to demands from our star player who is threatening to leave to a team that has nothing of substance to offer. Lakers seem to think that d'lo (if he doesn't opt out) and rui have great value across the league.

It would take their futures they still own, reaves, plus some other value they have to find somewhere.

People on twitter lie?

Is this what we have come to in America where people can lie on social media?

Not really. Unless you're willing to risk Trae walking away for nothing in Free Agency. It's truly only a year before we reach a point of desperation.

Unless you want a Siakam-Raptors type drama playing out in the final year of the Trae Young era. That's a level of dysfunction I'd prefer to avoid at all costs.

I'm OK with that!
Ressler and FO need to figure this out....no more half measures and being an unserious franchise.

They have not used all of their resources that they had available AT THE START of this season for Ressler's comments regarding to "being a top 6 team and AVOID THE PLAY-IN."

These were all the options available at the start of the league year July 1st 2023:

1. The John Collins TPE of $25 million - they used $2 million of it when they traded for Garuba or Tyty

2. The MLE of $12.4 million

3. The Bi-Annual exception of $4.5 million

4. The rest of the Huerter TPE of $3.6 million

5. Mo Harkless TPE of $4.6 million

6. The Justin Holiday TPE $6.2 million which they allowed to expire on 02/09/2024

7. The John Collins TPE of $25.3 million - they have since used $2 million of it when they traded for Tyty who they then turned around and traded for another small TPE which expires 07/12/2024.

8. We currently still sit $9.1 million under this season's Luxury Tax.

And again, this is not me saying to run head first into the Luxury Tax just to do it.  But when the INTENTION IS ALWAYS TO AVOID IT NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCE it will always leave me wanting more.  (and again just because you start a season over the tax does not mean you end the league year over).  I just want us to have a fighting chance at the start of the season.  Not behind the 8-ball from the jump because we left talent leave that hasn't been replaced. We've gotten no oncourt value from the Huerter trade, now we have to wait another for the pick, and if history tells us anything, we'll wait then another 3 years before that player picked is contributing.

I live for the day when we start the season with a chance to be considered having a championship worthy team instead of happy to avoid the play-in team.

We just seem like a rudderless ship flowing with the current with no real plan.

I would prefer it as well. But if the alternative is our hand being forced to take whatever scraps Lakers are willing to throw us, I say you call if bluff. Force him to walk and go to a team who is under the cap enough to give him a max.
But I also realize that is not how teams operate. They cave in to player demands and would sign and trade him as to not anger each other.
