Jones measure shorter than I expected at the Combine. 6’4.5.
Screw him. Draft Eddy.

Going to have to apparently move up into the lottery.

Sounds like the story was planted by Edey's agent.

Name / Height / Weight / Wingspan / Standing Reach
Tyler Smith / 6-8.75 / 223.8 / 7-1 / 8-9
Carlton Carrington / 6-3.75 / 194.8 / 6-8 / 8-3
Izan Almansa / 6-9.25 / 219.6 / 7-1 / 9-2
All aboard the Almansa train.
Celtics could use an athletic big to develop alongside Walsh. A Naz Reid, Jaylin Williams type. Almansa seems to have slipped a bit. Maybe he's available at 54?

If Brad does decide to stick w/ the blueprint of drafting 18/19 yr old kids w/ good athleticism (and not drafting bigs) this guy could get a look:
Pick 30 would probably be a reach for him, but could be a decent flier in the 2nd round..

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
My top five guys for the Celtics in the 2024 NBA draft.
1) Ulrich Comche -I know nothing about his other than he has good size, length and athleticism. Think a Chris Bosh body type. He's the youngest prospect in the draft with good perimeter mobility and fluidity. Given Al's age I'd like them to take a developmental big, he seems like a good flyer as an atheltic big with upside.
2) Bobi Klintman -You can never have enough length+shooting. Klintman has both, 6'9 with good shooting splits. He may never be a primary on ball option but the Celtics don't need one. I think he has a high floor as a rotation player if his shot translates and some potential as a big wing if he develops on ball.
3) Jaylon Tyson - Literally can't go wrong drafting as many versatile 6'6 wings as possible. Also his name has "Jay" in it, so that's a plus. Seems to have a good feel for the game, good off the catch shooter.
4) John Furphy - Elite shooter. With Sam Hauser entering the last year of his deal could be a replacement long term.
5) Tyler Kolek - Good shooter. Could be a Payton Pritchard replacement if they need to drop PP's contract.
*Disclaimer: I have watched literally zero college basketball.

Antonio Reeves with a good showing at the combine yesterday. He's a legit shooter/scorer and could be a Hauser replacement if he can't be extended or a compliment for even more bench shooting if Sam is on the roster long term. Not with our first round pick, but I like him as a later pick/UDFA/2-way option. Being a UK fan I've seen him a lot of times and he's got his limitations but has an NBA skill too.

Seems like guards in general have been getting under rated in the draft - White, Holiday, Brunson, Haliburton, SGA, Maxey all high level guards outside the top 10.
Feels like there are enough decent guards in this draft for there to be a breakout candidate or three found later in the draft.

Pretty sure you can make the same arguments about bigs though: Jokic, Antetokounmpo, Gobert, Adebayo, Sabonis, Siakam... In fact outside of the clear cut best prospects in their respective drafts (Davis, Towns, Williamson, Wembanyama) which were pretty much can't miss guys there is astonishing number of bigs selected in the top 10 that turn into busts. So I'm not sure it's an anti guard bias so much as scouting just being really hard.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
This guy is intriguing as either a late 2nd round pick or a UDFA.
Plays hard, high IQ, good athlete. 6'8" with a 7'2" wingspan.
Over the past few years, the Celtics have tried lots of different guys in that "backup PF spot".
A couple yrs ago we had a competition in the preseason for that spot between Grant, Juancho and Jabari Parker.
Grant is gone, so then we got Lamar Stevens and Brissett to try and fill that void.
Freeman could end up being a guy who could fill that spot, down the road.
His rebounding % is insanely high. Impressive, considering he's not that big. But you watch him play and he has a nose for the ball, reads the ball coming off the rim, is really quick and really goes *hard* after the boards.
Can post up, good touch near the basket. Can shoot from 3 a little bit. Good passer.
;t=136s
As I mentioned before, we have depth and talent at every position. Not many mins to give - it'd be an uphill battle for any guy we draft. If we trade pick 30 and draft Freeman at 54, I'm fine with that.
Here's what his college coach said about him the other day - pretty cool story!
BTW, we actually did bring in Freeman for a pre-draft workout last year. But of course, he returned to school for another year. But it's clear that Freeman is on Boston's radar..
Edit: in case you read all this and watched the vids and are wondering why he's not a top 20 pick instead of me saying we could target him in late 2nd round or UDFA, it's mainly because:
-He's old. 23 now, turns 24 in July
-Played whole career in mid major conference, so weaker competition
-Is probably too small to play the 5 and doesn't shoot the 3 great

I tend to look at positions as Brad has described them - that list in that light is half bigs and half swings (ie, bigger forwards).
Pretty much all the guys I listed can be considered the same position of ball handler. If we expand it to guards in general there’s lots of solid hits lately like Bane, Quickley, Mitchell etc.
I’m not even arguing so much higher discrepancy with guards than bigs/forwards, though I do think the general trend has been there, especially as of late - but more so that this feels like a draft that in hindsight a good portion of the best players from it may be guards drafted later in the draft.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
I watched all the scrimmages. I was most impressed by Ajay Mitchell. Belgian kid who played for Santa Barbara. I think his dad is American. He is a combo guard and he reminds me of a little of Derrick White. A little smaller I think. High IQ player who just plays the right way. He is not what the Celtics need at the moment but some team will get a good player when they draft him in the 2nd round. My Uconn guy Karaban was solid too. Despite his lack of athleticism, he will become a solid role player in the NBA.
I forgot to add, Nikola Đurišić looks like a bigger Bogdan Bogdanović. I know Hal mentioned him few times here before but I think he will end up being a really good player in the NBA.

As a fellow "zero college" fan, this wish list is similar to mine. Chomche would be a nice guy to get in early second round, stash or Maine for a couple years but probably not going to do much for Celtics during the current run.
Klintman doesn't seem to get a lot of love on this board. He has some pro experience now, and has the attributes you mention. If he's there at 30, I'd hope Brad would have some interest. Anyway, seems like a guy who could be a rotation big and contribute next season.
Furphy is another guy that will probably be gone by 30, and not worth trading up for, but if he is there at 30, hmmmmm. Seems like a guy that would fit in Celtics scheme, replacing Svi now, and maybe Hauser insurance in the future. I watch some clips and wonder if just get blown by on most plays though. Needs to build strength and improve lateral movement -- but that's not unheard of for 19-year-olds.
Getting Furphy at 30, and moving up in the 2nd round to get Chomche would be a nice draft, imo, but more towards the future pipeline after next season when the team needs some affordable contracts for bench rotation or as part of a trade. I predict Brad will more likely trade out though.
