that's where he'll have to prove it. It's not done until it's done -- but I'm planning on it happening this spring!

 Brian Windhorst really said JT is not an MVP candidate because he played bad in the Finals two years ago. Absolutely ludicrous

trash take.
I expect the "best player on the best team" narrative to gain some steam over the next week or so.

He finished 6th in the straw poll behind dudes who are in the Play-In picture. I just don't see it man.

That's certainly not something Embiid has been guilty of.
Or SGA.
Or Luka.

I really think Tatum is going to win the Paul Pierce NBA Finals MVP Award before regular season MVP.

Or win two Finals MVPs and no RS MVP like Kawhi. But hopefully both FMVPs are with the Cs.

I'd applaud your humor if the award weren't actually named after Bill Russell.

Unless you win it without the regular season one first. Then it’s the Paul Pierce “I didn’t call bank, I called game!!” MVP.

Performance from previous seasons/postseasons shouldn't affect your standing in CURRENT regular season award voting. I find it all dumb. From Jokic getting docked 'cos he already won two straight to Lebron's "legacy votes" to JT being viewed negatively because he came up short in the 2022 Finals. Odd too that they seem to have different standards depending on the players when it comes to this stuff. So Tatum can't win MVP because Cs lost the 2022 Finals but it's okay for Embiid to win MVP even though he never got past the 2nd round? Okaaayyyyy.

Yeah the mvp stuff is weird; I don’t think Jayson should be winning this year or anything but there’s some double dipping here with regards to the quality of his team. On the one hand he’s relegated to nr 6 in the mvp race cause he has so much talent around him but oth the Celtics only get 2 all stars. Both things can’t be true right ?

And whoever you think is the 2nd best player on the Celtics; I think 95% of the broader nba fanbase and media wouldn’t say he’s better than Paul George, Jamal Murray, Dame lillard, kyrie right ? So Tatum has a worse co star than most mvp candidates too.

That said; I’d only have him at 4 or 5 atm. Jokic/sga/giannis all have better stats and all of their teams are around a +10-11 when their guy is playing just like Tatum.

I’d have Tatum or kawhi at 4/5; kawhi’s numbers are insane but lower games played/lower usage kinda equals it to me

Doncic 6 cause his stats are so bonkers but the mavs are only a +3 when he plays

Btw Tatum and the bench is even more insane this year; the following is the minutes with Tatum on and kp and jb off

Get ready for all the SGA should win because he is more clutch than Tatum arguments, even though he has never won a playoff series in his life and has been very ordinary in the postseason (15/4/4 in his career, Tatum's terrible finals were 22/7/7 as a reference point). Also what's his excuse for last season when he got blown off the court in the play-in while shooting 5/19 ?

I don't mind SGA winning. They just don't need to use that reasoning. SGA has a strong argument to win this year.

It's a testament to how much (negative) impact Jaylen Brown has.
