It's too bad Beef Stew signed that extension. He'd be a perfect addition here. Strength, physicality, toughness. A badass who doesn't back down from nobody - not even LeBron. Can shoot the 3, defend multiple positions, play the 4 or the 5..and long term could slide in to Al's role as the backup big..

1) Bulls are open to moving Caruso
2) They're looking for a package that is much better than what we can offer (Pritchard + 3 of our minimum contract end of the bench guys + picks)

They want a package similar to the OG package which was Barrett + Quickley. It might be just posturing, but our package doesn't come close to that.

I'd love to score AC, but unsure of what we could put together to get it done.

A trade package centered around Pritchard is decent for Chicago because he's cheap and locked up for 4 more seasons; however, that's something we would lose as well. Contractually, we have a lot of mouths to feed over the next two seasons as it is. I'm sure Brad is on the phone but there has to be teams who can put together much better packages.

My trade deadline trade of the day for the Celtics would be Andre Drummond, Torrey Craig from the Bulls for Stevens, Mykhailiuk, 2024 1st round pick, two future 2nd round picks.

Celtics get a big wing and more depth at the center position. Celtics still would have one open spot for a buyout.

This is interesting. I actually haven't heard of a draft and stash player coming over right in the middle of the season before.

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/274547/Pelicans-Draftee-Karlo-Matkovic-Leaves-Slovenian-Club-For-NBA

I guess the Pelicans are desperate for a backup big man. And maybe Matkovic has been developing really well overseas.

Something to keep in mind, with our draft and stash guys, Madar and Begarin. If they play well enough, apparently there is a chance we could bring them over mid-season.

Madar and Begarin are more likely to be traded than to wear a Celtics uniform.

I think one way to interpret that is they are looking for young players rather than future picks. I don't think they want to get worse on court but recognize Caruso's value goes down next year as an expiring and he could either age out or leave in FA.

So I think PP is a part of a potential deal there (not necessarily on the level of Quickley but he is a competent young player on a good long term deal). Other half would be what could Boston get with its stash of smaller picks that would be similar, solid young players to send to Chicago. And obviously how does that compete with other teams in terms of what Chicago is looking for (young players under contractual control to not take too far of a step back).

So we can compile a list of similar players that have been mentioned as available (Grimes, Colin Sexton, etc etc). But the big question is how many firsts would they put up in that kind of deal. Goes without saying the 24 first would be on the table but would they do a lightly protected additional first?

I'd think hard about a yes on that, imo Caruso immediately becomes the 6th man on this team in the playoffs.

Edit: or adding Hauser.

https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-trade-deadline-intel-lakers-celtics-bulls-cavs-mavs-nets-pistons-wizards-grizzlies-wolves/

Despite sitting atop the NBA with the league’s best record, the Boston Celtics have been active ahead of the trade deadline.

The Celtics are looking to package some of their minimum contract players at the end of the rotation and draft pick compensation to bolster their bench heading into the playoffs, league sources told HoopsHype.

Boston has expressed interest in a wide range of trade targets, including Kelly Olynyk, Delon Wright, Andre Drummond, and others, league sources told HoopsHype.

Drummond would fit the parameters of Boston’s current compensation package above, while Olynyk and Wright would likely cost more.

Pritchard, Hauser, Jordan Walsh, Brissett (or whoever), 2024 first plus 3-4 good seconds is a really competitive offer for Caruso imo.

Interesting. So it could be a guard, a wing or a big.

Could be someone cheap who fits in the TPE or a more expensive guy who we need to trade half our bench to get.

All we know for sure is that it appears likely that Brad will get somebody. Seems that somebody could be pretty much anyone who makes $12 mil or less.

In 3 more days we'll know for sure..

Would love to get Caruso.
We need 8,6 million in salary going out so PP and at least two others depending on who. Oshae Hauser and Kornet are the only guys that really would be “play now” types. Hauser has a team option so may have some value. Does including Walsh excite Chicago at all. Team friendly contract, top recruit, high potential under 20 guy. First rounder probably if in this draft. I’d ad a couple picks.

Now the challenge is he will get paid nicely next season as an RFA…can we keep him long term?

Maybe we bring Drummond in on the TPE so it’s a 4 for two.
Caruso and Drummond for PP, Kornet, Hauser, Walsh, 24 FRP and a future pick swap?
If needed we can take another low salary back with Drummond under TPE.
Bench of Horford, Caruso, Drummond, Oshae seems alright… I’d miss Kornet and Hauser as well as PP but Caruso at least fills the ball handler, shooter, and perimeter D rolls all by himself.

If the Celtics do a deal with Chicago it's mathematically possible to bring in Caruso, Drummond and Craig. That would be wonderful but I'm definitely not expecting anything like that.

This team is trying to win a title now. You can find plenty of Walsh types in the draft, buying late firsts and early seconds are easy.

Caruso is arguably the best perimeter defender in basketball, and shoots 41% from three on good volume. That’s the type of move teams who win championships make.

I struggle with that as well…but I think I probably overvalue both Walsh and Hauser.

I think it’s probably fair value wise but damn it would be hard. Brad allegedly has Balls though and Caruso can fill the role of Hauser, PP and assuming we can sign him long term gives us a few more years of what Walsh might bring someday…
