Interesting note: He's played in 19 games so far this season. He's had 3 or more steals in 6 of those games. That's nuts!

On a related note, the celtics so far this season are ranked 27th in the league in steals per 100 possessions.

So yeah, if he can improve the shooting, I think he's got a legit shot to be on the roster next season. He needs to spend the upcoming summer in the gym with Ben Sullivan!

Here's another look at the play. Looks like the defender kind of pushed him from behind while Begarin was in mid-air (a big no-no to do that, could injure the guy, it's usually a flagrant in the NBA if that happens) and that's why Begarin immediately turned and yelled (looks like he said f--- you) at the defender..

I can already picture Al calming Juhann down the way Simms (#25) does here :)

Don't look now, but Juhann is shooting 50% from 3 over his last 4 games (4/8). Including 2/4 from 3 yesterday.

In yesterday's game he had 15 points (5/7 FG, 2/4 from 3) and 3 steals.

Pretty cool that he had that game, on the same day that JD had 16 pts and 16 assists in the g league.

Our 20 year old prospects are showing some good potential!

Hope he can turn it around, because he's an NBA athlete, but Juhann's 3PT shooting numbers are absolutely horrendous.

.282 so far in 2022-2023 (20/71 across pro A and Eurocup)
.309 in 2021-2022 (34/110 in pro A)
.342 in 2020-2021(54/158 across pro B and the cup)
.290 in 2019-2020 (9/31 in pro B)

So the .282 this season isn't a fluke; over the last two seasons (i.e. his first-division career), he's .298. Over the last three seasons, he's .318.

Yeah but dude, he's only 20 years old. Some of the stats you just posted were from when he was only 17. Nobody looks at 3 pt shooting percentages of 17 year olds. c'mon now.

Here's what some other dudes shot from 3 when they were 20:

JD Davison 29%
Jaylen Brown 29%
Scottie Barnes 27%
Josh Richardson 34%
Khris Middleton 26%
Shawn Marion 29%
Kawhi Leonard 29%
Grant Williams 32%
Jerami Grant 0% (shot 0/5 from 3 during his sophomore season of college)
Marcus Smart 29%
Bogdan Bogdanović 31%
Evan Fournier 27%

Point is, a) when dudes are only 19/20 yrs old, it's actually pretty common to be in that 27-31% range. b) Often times, it takes dudes until they are a little bit older before they really get to be good, reliable shooters and c) it's possible for guards/wings to be good rotation players, even if they're not an elite shooter

And Begarin is facing tougher competition right now than pretty much every dude on that list above.

I’m not sure it’s as much they don’t figure it out early or they just don’t put effort into the mechanics and a shooting coach and all that. Semantics really, but if they put the effort into shooting at 20 as they do at 23, I believe every one of those guys on your list would be good shooters at 20 too.

One of the best game of the season for Juhann today. 16 points on 6/10 shooting (2/4 from three, 2/3 from the line), 7 boards (2 offensive), 5 assists, 3 steals and +28 in just 24 minutes.

So some day, when he's more seasons, Begarin can perhaps shoot 3s like Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Khris Middleton and Evan Fournier are this season? :)

Begarin has been called up by the french team for the WC qualifiers in February. The roster is fairly light at the 2/3 spots so I'm hoping he'll get plenty of run.

Highlights Paris Basketball vs Budocnost, from a few days ago:
:01 Begarin hits a smooth catch and shoot 3 on the break. Nice!
:10 wow, look at the way he explodes to the rim here on the break. Good athleticism
1:03 wow. He actually brings the ball up the floor here as the PG. Sees an opening in the defense and explodes through it, explodes to the rim for the dunk. Damn!
1:32 nice live dribble skip pass with 1 hand to the open shooter
1:58 good lord, this whole video (which is a game highlights vid, not a Begarin highlights vid) is pretty much all dunks and 3's by Begarin. This play, again we see the speed, power and athleticism on display as he explodes to the rim for another 1 handed jam

This game he had 22 pts, 10/13 FG, 2/4 from 3, 1 rebound, 5 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 0 turnovers and 0 fouls and his team won by like 20

In yesterday's game, he had 15 pts, 9 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks, only 1 turnover, 1 foul

He could be ready next season..

He's been in and out of the lineup recently with injuries. Seems like he's starting to get his rythm back.

The potential is very intriguing.

He obviously played very well at summer league. Early on this season there were ups and downs (most of the downs probably attributed to injury) but he's had tons of games with 3+ steals, he had the big performance in the all-star game, and now these past couple of games he's really coming on strong.

He's got NBA athleticism, he's got an NBA body, he moves at NBA speed. He shows intriguing flashes on both ends of the floor. All of this at age 20, while competing in one of the better pro leagues in the world.

I think it's a good bet that he gets a chance on the big club one of the next two years. Since I don't like being patient: probably next year. As Grant and Pritchard mature and ripen and maybe(?) move on, Begarin and JD are our new developmental pieces -- and fairly promising ones for where they were drafted!

Maybe it’s confidence and familiarity allowing him to do so, but he seems faster in these videos than he did the last 2 summer leagues. Dribble drive or on the break he’s to the rim in a hurry! I’m always skeptical these draft and stashes work out but I’m hopeful for the kid. It’d be great if next season he could come in and be a useful end of bench guy even if we don’t need him often. Something Jackson was not, and something similar to what we’re hoping for in a potential buyout wing option.

Highlights from earlier this month featuring Juhann getting the rebound, and taking it coast to coast for a dunk (play begins at the 2:25 mark).

Heck of a play by Juhann. Made it look easy. Gotta like the long strides too.

Two good games in a row for Begarin.

22 points (7/14 shooting, 6/8 from the line), 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 turnovers and 1 block in a 1 point win in the round of 16 of the Eurocup (single game elimination format so nice to see him handle the pressure).
19 points (7/16 shooting, 3/6 from the line), 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, 4 turnovers and 2 blocks against Nancy in the french league.

Still too many turnovers and missed free throws but maybe the first one will get better with experience/NBA spacing and the second one with Ben Sullivan's coaching.

Paris is on a 4 game winning streak overall but, in the french league, they are still half a game out of the playoffs and one game back from the 7th spot (no chance at the top 6) with 5 games left. It should be a good experience for Begarin to be involved in a playoff chase this late in the season.

That's a bunch of turnovers but damn 8 steals in two games is kind of crazy, esp with the kind of minutes he plays.

That's now 13 times this season he's had 3+ steals in a game. 2 times this season with 5 steals in a game.

IMO, that's the biggest selling point with him as a guy who could potentially join this celtics team. This season, the celtics ranked 25th in steals per game and 26th in steals per 100 possessions. Begarin is REALLY good at 1 of the very few things this celtics team is not good at. He could come in and fill a void.

He just needs to keep working on his shooting. He should come to Boston and work with Ben Sullivan on his shooting as much as he can this offseason. I figure him and Champagnie will both be on the summer league team. It'll be interesting to see how they both play in summer league. I doubt we carry both of them on the 15 man roster next season. I figure 1 of them will get a roster spot.
