Meh. The swap is worthless if the Celtics have a better team than the Spurs in 2028. That's not much of an asset. This year is a weak draft except at the top, so I see why Stevens did it. But I still hate giving up picks.

I'm guessing from these moves that the quest for Bradly Beal is likely over. It's just as well IMHO.

I hope so! *This* is the sort of player you want around JT and JB, not (at all, ever) Beal.

I'd been hoping for a Harrison Barnes-level guy, and we got a stealth one who might fit our roster, payroll, and timeline *really* well!

Well looks like Brad just doesn't want to deal with 1st round pick. Which is ok, burning the bridge for tanking. Biggest issue I see is the 2028 swap might bite us in the arse , if Tatum/Brown decide to leave in a few years and we get burn, while Stevens back to coaching college at Duke or something.

I don't see it that way at all. I think Smart is now expendable with White coming in and Horford would be needed for salary matching and we have Theis to take those minutes.

Spurs fan on the GB:

White is going to unlock that offense for Boston, just wait. He is the secondary ballhandler to Murray and he still averaged 5apg. With the ball in his hands full time he should easily be around 8apg with Tatum/Brown on the wings.

I'm not really sure he'll take the ball completely out of Smart's hands but that's still a great endorsement.

He sure as hell should take the ball out of his hands.

If he's this much of an offensive impact, he needs to be starting.

If he's held back by Smart, then Smart needs to go.

People keep talking about a pick swap.

I am only seeing the 2022 pick going out on all the news outlets.

What is correct?

Loving the ridiculous defense this gives us.

And white completely unlocks the offense imo.

I didn't read all the post yet but one thing I like about D white is that as a former San Antonio spur player under Popps he certainly knows how to move with and without the ball.

+/- on how many dunks Rob gets off White passes in their first game together?

I'm going with... 3.

Romeo wasn't even in the rotation these last couple weeks.

For rotation guys, we lost schroder and richardson - added white and theis. all 4 of those players can give you 10-15 pts on a given night. we will likely need someone (pritchard, nemsith, hauser) to chip in a little bit off the bench now.

But the defense is even better now..

White seems like a precursor to a Smart trade in the summer

I thought teams couldn't trade first round picks in back to back drafts? This would mean both '21 and '22 picks have been traded?

The White trade came out of nowhere, I wonder I’d they threw in the pick swap to close it, thinking they were about to move Smart. See how they look together, Smart has been big for our chemistry lately and the defense will be unreal.

I’m not underrating our guys: Derrick White is another player on the level of Rob and Smart.

Brad upgraded the talent level. Hard to see Richardson leave after the recent displays of chemistry, but we sold high on Josh

They love White in the Spurs org. San Antonio clearly wanted to put him in a position where he’d succeed. Like when we sent KG and Pierce to Brooklyn, or Toine to Miami to win a title

I'm happy to see how they co-exist, but yeah, Brad still has some contracts left to go after another big name in the summer.

Agree, makes it much easier to package Horford and Smart, maybe even Rob (borderline all star/DPoY)/Horford/Smart if Towns ever asks out

We can do a big KG type trade in the future and still have a Rondo and Perk type left over on the roster, however you look at it

And we can just steadily improve and contend with this core. And wait for whenever the inevitable next big star asks out
