On offense, Walsh just stands several feet behind the 3 pt line -- or closer if he's in the corner -- and watches.

At least, that's what he did on a number of the plays shown.

Obviously highlights make everyobdy look good but compared to last year he seems much more comfortable finishing when he can't get all the way to the rim.

At some point, I would think we're gonna have to fully promote this kid and give him a real shot or just move on because we don't think he's that good. Obviously it's good form him to continue to get regular run where he can get it to help develop his game. But there's not a ton more down in the G League that he can do down there. At some point, he's gonna have to come up to Boston or not.

You can only keep a guy on a 2-way for 2 consecutive seasons. So the point we have to make that decision with JD is next summer.

Until then, you just keep him down there in the G league, unless we get to the point where Brad think JD can actually get minutes and contribute for the big club and get us closer to banner 18. Which is unlikely to happen this season, given our backcourt depth and also considering we don't know if he can defend at an NBA level..also, while the uptick in his 3 FG% so far this season is certainly encouraging, it's on a pretty small sample size of 15 games.

That 15 game sample is outweighed by HS (outside shot consistency was one of his weaknesses coming out of HS), in college (only shot like 30% from 3 in college) and last season in G league (was only around 30% from 3).

It seems like JD is playing very well right now, but let's remember that:
a) he's doing it in G league, which is much worse competition than NBA..in G league there's very little defense that's played so it's easier to pile up the offensive stats
b) he's only 21 yrs old..so we shouldn't feel like we're in this big rush to either promote him or trade/waive him. And while he's playing well, he has not won a G league championship, has not won a G league MVP or even made 1st team all-G league

while I'd love for him to develop into part of our future*, JD is likely a minor trade asset for a franchise that has few of them.

*minutes become available as Jrue (assuming he resigns this summer) ages, right? But hopefully not much very soon;)

Maybe after this year you trade Pritchard to a team under the cap like Portland or something and then promote JD. Maybe add a ring chasing vet pg in FA as well just for support. But I think there is a change of pace, energy off the bench PG in there somewhere. Would like to see him get a shot.

He has a chance to make it in the NBA. Every player needs a quality that gets him on the floor. Davison, with his impressive speed, athleticism and floor vision has a few. Having said that, gaining a consistent three point shot is very important for him, and will determine his career path.

The kid's ready. Just playing out the string down there now. If he's not playing in Boston next year he's gonna be playing for another team. Only thing we're waiting for is the inevitable Payton Pritchard trade this offseason to let him in.
