New season of Slow Horses on Apple is quite good. On par with the 1st two seasons but more action this time around. All 6 episodes are out now.

The new NBC show based off Wyc that he was promoting a few games back is pretty meh during the first episode. Typical laugh track sit-com imo, and I wish they would have just used Wyc's name (enough though he looks nothing like Donald Faison obviously lol). Maybe we'll get some Celtics cameo's a la Cheers to make it worthwhile.

For those who like slow-paced movies with focus on nuanced acting, dialogue and silences, here's two recommendations. "Spider" (2002, directed by David Cronenberg, with Ralph Fiennes and Miranda Richardson), and "An Impossible Love" (2018, with the fantastic Virginie Efira). I think someone here recommended "An Impossible Love" a couple years ago so thank you to that person, whoever that was. It starts as a date movie but it turns out to be anything but.

I also re-watched Paul Verhoeven's "Total Recall" this week -- always a treat. Next up is a re-watch of "Elle" (also by Paul Verhoeven, with Isabelle Huppert and, once again, Virginie Efira).

If we have any Money Heist fans around here, the new spin-off Berlin on Netflix is a lot of fun.

It's a prequel with Berlin leading a different group of thieves on a heist. Mostly an all new cast from the original, except for Berlin and a couple other characters who show up later in the season. It has a little bit of a different feel from the original but it's along the same lines.

Good way to kill some time. I enjoyed it.

Anyone tried this?

Lots of action and laughs. I love Michelle Yeoh in everything she does.

I got two episodes left of Fargo this season. Still one of the best shows on TV/streaming. Very few shows can survive my ADHD. It's easily one of them. Ted (the foul-mouthed bear now on streaming) is hilarious.

For All Mankind latest season might be their weakest for me, but still a solid watch. Monarch S1 was kinda meh. Didn't care much about the family drama. Also watching Reacher S2 on Prime Video.

EDIT: Finale left (in a few days) for Fargo. So badass.

I think this season of Fargo might be my favorite. It's so good I've been watching every episode twice lol.

I was waiting for the full season of For All Mankind and will start watching soon. Same with Reacher.

Monarch kinda sucked imo.

There is an Excellent 1990 movie on Turner Classic Movies On Demand (last day On Demand is January 19, I believe).

Metropolitan is the name. $215,000 Budget, $7 Million in Worldwide sales ($2.9M in U.S.), Nominated for Academy Award for Best Screenplay. An outsider joins a bunch of Upper class Manhattanites passing thru the debutante season.

Writer-Director-Producer was Whit Stilman, who self-produced, graduated Harvard, but I believe that the outsider is from Princeton. For various reasons, Stillman fell out of favor in Hollywood for a while, but a 1998 film he did was also outstanding, despite being a box office flop. "The Last Days of Disco" focused on a bunch of yuppies at a Studio 54-like Disco in 1980-81. Easily the best performances I've seen by Kate Beckinsale or Chloe Sevigny.

Both films are quite enjoyable. Definately among the best dialogue I've ever seen in films. Nearly every scene turns, opening up the gap between expectation and result, the mark of a true craftsman.

Thank you for this recommendation. I love discovering and watching well-done movies that flew under the radar. Adding it to my watchlist.

It was really good. Great performances by the 3 leads. Yeoh is really the heart of the film. Every scene she's in she commands. Great to see herreally getting the kind of recognition for her craft now outside of her martial arts chops.

Trigger Point, not for the faint of heart. S2 is as bonkers as S1.

I suddenly miss Spooks/MI-5. Why are the Brits so good at police/spy drama?

Pilot was (unexpectedly slow-burn-y but) pretty cool.
