Did like his rolling instincts. Seems to be more willing to mix it up than last year. Had a pretty good idea of where to be for only being with the team so short and not playing 5 on 5 before.

Sure, he is a far cry from the player he used to be and its sad to see a guy who was so talented, savvy and hard working this diminished starting at a relatively young age (31-33).

That said, 9 rebounds in 16 min. is not washed up. That is useful and he did look decent as a ball mover and a floor spacer.

I think this pickup is going to pay dividends in the big picture: not overplaying Al, not overplaying Brogdon by relying on small ball too much.

As much as Kornet, Kabengele and Vonleh have youth and health on their side…..you could immediately see why Blake was a good choice. His veteran savvy can be more conducive to winning basketball than what the others do. Of course, he still looks like he could break apart any minute like an old car leaking oil.

He was decent. Not great, not terrible.

But i think all of us are just not reading too much into his performance last night since it's just the first game with the team, he might look different/better when he's out there with better players (tatum, al, smart, brogdon were all out tonight), he's still getting himself into game shape and he still hasn't even practiced 5 on 5 with the team yet.

Now he gets a full week of practice with the team before the next game. I think that game will be a better barometer of what he can give us. PLus I'm assuming Kornet will be back by then so next game should give us a better idea of how things are looking with the kornet/griffin/vonleh backup big man competition..

If your looking at Blake through the lens of what he used to be then yeah he’s “washed”. How you should look at him is as the 11th, 12th man on the team and a guy who will go in take charges, set screens, make some good passes, run the offense the way we want and eat up regular season minutes.

That’s a role I think he’ll be solid in and he was the other night. He’s a deep bench role player guy now and most importantly he’s bought into that role and the locker room loves him so far.

the main 'stars' of this team seem to LOVE Blake so far -- instant BEST FRIENDS like "Stepbrothers." And maybe the best part about it is -- just realized this -- Blake can tell them, like Ime did, when they're "playing like ****" and they'll seem to value his opinion. Coach Joe has a lot on his plate, and helping take that particular thing off of his plate might have been a really smart move by Brad.

Blake's always had that cool kid/****/bully vibe about him, and it might be as useful as his positional rebounding.

Who's better: Current Blake Griffin or peak Brian Scalabrine?

I lean to Griffin, based on both stats and the eye test.

And yes, this is a serious comparison.
-- Griffin's body went from one extreme to the other, and he's now at Scal-level athleticism, in bad and good ways alike.
-- Nobody would want Griffin on their roster now if they didn't think he was a smart, gritty player; the same, of course, was always true of Scal.
