Why cant he play minutes in important games?

Last night was an important game. On the road, going against the top team in the west and going against one of the top big men in the league. Griffin did great!

I don't really see how he can play in last night's game but can't play in important games.

It's obvious at this point that there was just a false narrative that Blake was completely cooked, which clearly isn't true. Sure he's not the Blake from 10 years ago and his minutes need to be managed but he's effectively not all that much different than Horford. He's the perfect player to platoon with Horford in the regular season and should be his first backup off the bench in the playoffs.

I don't really see how he can play in last night's game but can't play in important games. He also did very well vs Toronto - that was an important game too, IMO. Suns and Raptors are both playoff teams.

Again I think the whole point is that he can play in important games, but you'd still obviously rather not have to play him.

When it comes to the playoffs you're going to want to tighten up the rotations and you're looking at 8-9 guys getting minutes. With Horford, Rob and Grant you're pretty much covered for the frontcourt with Tatum playing minutes at the 4 as well. But the mere fact that you can play Blake in important games is what's been so impressive. Compared to how he looked for Brooklyn for the most part, he's just looking signficantly better overall.

If any of those other 3 big guys miss time during the stretch run, between Blake and Kornet we've got really solid options to fill the gap. It'll be a big drop off from the level of those 3 but not nearly as big a drop off as I had originally though (Kornet has been considerably better than I had imagined he'd be as well).

Now, I know a lot of people who would be mad and say they'd be stupid, but if we HAD to use blake to make the money work to bring in say, poeltl... I don't think they'd do it. LMAO.

Really, the locker room presence/love the guys have for him and the buddy-buddy relationship with Tatum will count for a lot of minor-ish deals not getting done if it has to include blake as a filler.

(in a scenario where Blake would be valuable, imagination people, use it! )

I think Blake is one of those vets you pray for to fill out a chip team. Even if he doesn't play, he's very valuable to us. That type of chemistry is hard to bottle let alone find.

(I would do it, but my teams would have been TURRIBLE with the moves I would have made over the years)

Blake is fine. He does what we ask him. We aren’t asking him to play defense, which is odd .

Griffin's problem is that he is the slowest player in the league, both in a straight line and laterally. But Embid was so lazy guarding him that it didn't matter.

That was a great watch, thanks for sharing. Level-headed guy, funny, intelligent. He and Brogdon look like perfect additions to an already well-balanced locker room.

Blake has been an overall quite pleasant surprise. Shows up when he’s asked and doesn’t make waves when he’s not involved. Funny and the team loves him.

Not a massive needle mover on paper but does some great things.
