Which experienced coach has made a significant championship difference on a new team. Larry Brown? Anybody more recent? Every championship coach I can think of for over a decade was either:

-- A rookie coach when he took the job.
-- Quickly fired after winning the championship.

Not a youngest-in-the-league rookie coach whose only NBA experience was as a back-bench assistant.

And I'm not sure the relevance of past-winner coaches getting fired.

In your own list the only retread coach that won is Vogel. Kerr was on his first coaching job ever. Lue was player development with Boston for a couple years, a year as assistant before becoming head coach.

With Miles gone, we probably need to hire at least 1 more assistant.

Some possible targets. Not ranked in any particular order..some of them more realistic than others..

-Dave Joeger
-Jerome Allen
-Mike Budenholzer
-Doc Rivers
-Derek Fisher
-Mike D'Antoni
-Scott Brooks
-Evan Turner
-Nate McMillan
-Lloyd Pierce
-Jay Larranaga
-JJ Redick
-Rasheed Wallace
-John Lucas
-Ryan Gomes
-Patrick Ewing
-Mahmoud Abdelfattah
-Rajon Rondo
-Scott Skiles
-Kevin Garnett
-Blake Griffin

I'd prefer Redick to be a shooting coach. But it seems like he is content to just do podcasting and TV appearances. If not him, then maybe Fisher or Gomes. Or Ewing, who has coaching experience, obviously a legendary player, played HS ball in the Boston area and many on here are asking for a "big man coach"..

Oh man, ESPN laying off lots of on-air talent today. Maybe they'll lay off Redick so we can hire him 8-)

I was thinking Jeff van Gundy for one year.

Where does he live? I suspect it's Houston, even though he coached in NYC, grew up around Rochester, and worked for a company HQed in CT.

Yeah, he could be a good option too. He usually speaks positively about the Celtics on game broadcasts. Obviously plenty of coaching experience. And a fiery guy.

Agreed. I doubt it happens but it could be a good fit. Former player, had a long, successful career so should command respect. Won a ring and did it by playing for a Hall of fame coach, and a team that truly embodied TEAM basketball and tough defense.

Seems like he'd bring a tough, no-nonsense vibe and intensity to the team.

Jeff Van Gundy is available, either as an assistant coach or to replace Scalabrine on Celtics broadcasts.

If Jeff van gundy walked through those doors I'd be a whole lot happier about the coaching staff. Imo it's the weakness of the Celtics can't win the ring with scrubs coaching. And so far it's a bunch a wannabes
