Great to see him rewarded! I hope he is on the 15-man roster for the entire season next year.

Apart from everything else, signing could serve as insurance if Kornet leaves in FA. Some team might pay him more than Cs are willing to offer. Queta would be a cheaper alternative if he could ever learn what to do on defense. Cs could also bring back Tillman but he’s more a backup 4 and smallball 5.

Can he still play in the championship game?

Yes. He just goes down as an "Assigned" player, like Jordan Walsh.

That line in the story out of Portugal from earlier today that said Queta was hoping to sign a standard contract turned out to be real.

It's a smart signing.

Here's a little analysis of the signing from Sports Illustrated.

Signing him now is a wise move. Had the C's waited until the summer, they ran the risk of getting outbid by a team that views him as capable of becoming its primary backup center.

That's a role he could develop into in Boston, carrying out that job on a team-friendly deal. As a team living over the second apron, having to pay more to sign him in the offseason or losing him to another suitor would've stung.

Instead, the Celtics avoided a situation where most of the potential outcomes if they procrastinated on what to do about Queta's contract were negative.

Continuing to work with a rising talent on a valuable deal is a proactive decision both sides can celebrate, as Queta, who's thrived in the Celtics' organization, could capture a G League and NBA title this year. As he ponders that possibility, the former second-round pick of the Sacramento Kings knows he'll have peace of mind this summer regarding where he'll be next season, making it easier to focus on honing his craft.

I expected this move.

Made too much sense compared to signing guys like Otto Porter.

We were trying to stealth move the off-season thread in here and then Queta has to go and get himself signed lol.

On a related note, how much more does he actually earn with this?

Good news. I really like this guy, the way I liked Robert Williams. If he can learn how to defend without fouling, he will serve us well.

It's a multi year contract.

The Celtics filled the final 15-man roster spot with a familiar face on Monday night. The team announced they have signed two-way center Neemias Queta to a contract. Details of the contract were not disclosed per team policy but a league source told MassLive that the agreement is for multiple years.

Do we know if it’s a multi year? Or just converted.

Likely just two years (so this year and next, probably non-guaranteed). Not sure if they could waive him in the offseason then sign him to a longer deal.

EDIT: I think we can since we'll have Non-Bird Rights by then. Waive him then sign to 4 years.
