Seems like a good dude and he's coming in with the right mindset.

All the new guys saying all the right things. Let's see in a month or two if they're still singing the same tune while a couple of them ride the bench. Last season, team really had great chemistry even when some of them didn't see the floor much (Exhibit 1A: the Legendary Bus 1 Boys).

La Mar will never sing a different tune whether he's eventually guaranteed, benched or cut.
Ever.

"(He's) physical," Mazzulla said. "Makes us work. Smart. We went to a couple of things in the Philly game where he had the ability to execute coverages defensively. We went to a couple of sets that we're not used to running that he handled well, and so he competes at a high level and he's really smart learning and communicating the game."

"Just viewing (Mazzulla) in practice and how he goes after guys and just tries to pull the best out of him," Stevens said. "He's a fierce competitor and he's going to scratch and claw and do what's needed to be done, do the dirty work that's needed to be done to secure a win. I think I'm the same way. I'm ok with diving on the floor. I'm ok with taking charges or going for offensive rebounds or making an extra sprint to get a block or whatever. I think we're definitely made up from the same toughness mindset of doing whatever it takes to get a win."

Definitely some good Lamar propaganda there. Seems like a mutual respect between Lamar and Mazzulla.

Certainly seems like he will make the team and have a good chance to contribute.

And perhaps a subtle jab at Banton with the "I'm not afraid to dive on the floor for a loose ball" line, after Banton was benched the other night for being slow to dive on the floor for a loose ball. And when Mazzulla pulled Banton, it was lamar who was subbed in for him.

This guy is physical, tough, and athletic. I see him being in the rotation come the regular season.

What do you mean? Did Stevens block a shot?

Admittedly, I exaggerated a bit. Semi actually blocked 19 shots in the 4111 minutes of his NBA career, which averages to almost 1 per 200 minutes of play.

He also once got a block in a playoff game, in only 400 minutes of total postseason play.

I know if and buts are candies and nuts but...

If Stevens gets his shot from the 3pt line up to about 35% he is a 25-30 min per game player.

And I think he can.

Whites was a 34% 3pt shooter prior joining the Cs
Horford never shot threes until later in career.

We have the personel to work with this guy and I see nothing telling me he wont put in the work.

In his 3 years in the league he's doubled his 3pt% and attempts in about 50% more minutes a game. If we extrapolate that in a couple seasons he'll be making 3's when he isn't even in the game.

Much like Queta, Stevens played really well last night.

I called Stevens the best athlete on the team a few weeks ago, we got to see some of that last night. His defense is really good.
Happy for him and Queta.

Why? He's already essentially signed for the year if Cs don't waive him before opening night.

If a team wants to keep a player on an Exhibit 9 deal, the simplest process is to keep them on the roster for opening night. At that point, the player’s contract converts from an Exhibit 9 contract to a standard non-guaranteed contract. It begins to count against the salary cap and the luxury tax, just like any other standard contract. If the team wants to guarantee the deal, they can do so at any time. Otherwise, the contract will become fully guaranteed on the league-wide guarantee date of January 10.
