KG would hunt Sam down and hurt him if he signed with the Cavs.

And we'll see about CLE. We still have the bi-annual exception if I'm right and Cassel may be worth it.

hey bud, havent seen you on here in a while, but thats probably me. i only quoted you to give an OT comment: how bout your boy altidore, between him, dempsey, and donovan, were all set at forward, we just need to figure our midfield out and stabilize the d a bit.

as for Cassell, ive seen nothing new, and while he wants to win, his primary impetus for joining the Cs is his friendship with KG, not just that we are contending

If my instincts are correct, Danny Ferry will do anything to get Cassell in Cleveland, just so he doesn't land in Boston.

I hope to God I'm wrong though.

Nobody is asking Sam to be the same guy he was in Houston or even Minny. What we need him to be is the Spurs version of Speedy Claxton. Back when Parker was 20 years old, Claxton stepped up big in the playoffs as the backup PG and spark off the bench...

No, the exceptions are pro rated. It would be the difference between a pro rated 1.2 mil or 1.8 mil, about $200,000. While money is money to give Sam an extra 200,000 it would cost Boston around 1.2 mil in salary and tax as opposed to $400,000, as well as cost them the exception for next offseason.

It would be meaningless if the Cavs are talking about using MLE money. But before anyone goes crazy, does anyone really think that Sam is worth 4 mil for the rest of the year and the playoffs to CLE. Does CLE win another series because they have Sam Cassell?

I doubt he will sign with the Cavs, even though he can get the starting job. His ties with Garnett are still so close to this day, that he probably won't say no right into KG's face. He has also played with Ray for 4 seasons.

First Round playoff exit because of inconsistent PG play?

Believe me, KG will make sure that Sam doesn't go there.

If true, I say Cassell will go to Denver. Anthony Carter starts in place of the injured (I think) Chucky Atkins and they've little else at the position. Not to mention, Cassell's long running relationship with head coach Karl and his aspirations to be a head coach learning from Karl as a player's coach.

Cassell to Boston could make sense but will Cassell and Rondo begrudge one another as teammates after Cassell's blatant flagrant foul on Rajon in that home game against the Clippers recently still fresh in everyone's mind. If Cassell were to mentor Rondo. Would Rondo listen now or would Cassell even bother seeing as he was showed up by Rondo.

"The next move Cassell could seek is a buyout of his contract, which would essentially be a divorce between him and the Clippers. Cassell said he would talk to David Falk, his agent, and discuss his options. If he seeks a buyout, it would have to occur by March 1, in order for Cassell to be eligible to be on the roster for a playoff team." Los Angeles Times

not sure that how much Cassell is worth is the measuring stick for CLE.

i would say that keeping LeBron happy is #1 on their list and since they aren't going to have any serious cap space the next couple of years this might be the only way to keep LeBron from starting to pack his bags...

and that would be devastating for their franchise...

plus, they need a PG big time.

Yes, that's our number of regular season wins for the next 4 years.

By the way, where is it being reported that the Clips and Sam have reached an agreement?

It's not.

Dear lord. Are you serious? That's your reasoning for why we're "not going anywhere with Rondo?" I think it's become apparent that Rondo is the reason the offense clicks. For such a perimeter oriented team, having somebody attract defenders in the paint is invaluable. It's no surprise that the offense struggled when Rondo was out. He's a HUGE reason we're 41-11 and will be a HUGE reason we make the Eastern Conference Finals.

right, i forgot cassell played with ray as well. i think that is more the basis of his interest than anything. in the article in the herald when we played them, he basically said it wasnt about money (or he'd just stay with the clips)
