There's such a thing as suck-it-up in sports. This sounds somewhat like an excuse by Smith. In my opinion, it's better to leave something like that out of your post game press conference.

Hawks forward Josh Smith had a rough Saturday night at the team hotel, struggling to get much sleep while battling an itchy allergic reaction to something he ate at the team hotel.

Sunday night wasn't much better, as he picked up two quick fouls and sat the entire second quarter of his first playoff game, the Hawks' humbling 104-81 loss to Boston at TD Banknorth Garden.

"I was too amped up and I knew it was going to happen," Smith said after scoring just six points, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking three shots in his 24 minutes of action. "Now that I have a game under my belt, I'll be able to come back under more control and play a better game. But I never could find my rhythm [Sunday].

"By the time I got back in the game they were all over us and it was tough to get going."

Josh Smith is an idiot plain and simple. ]Not only will they not win a game, they won't even be IN a game. Its gonna be blowout city and by saying stupid stuff like this he's only going to make it worst for this terribly over-matched team. I mean come on you were 5 games under .500 and you come out and say something crazy like this? What a nutjob!

To be fair, fan cockiness has absolutely zero to do with how the players on a team perform. Which is why bringing up the f'ing Pats to make fun of fans for a team's performance is pretty (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

However, I also think this thread is dumb. Making fun of a player for being confident? What's Smith supposed to tell: "Oh, we're gonna get waxed. It's gonna be a blowout, a bloodbath, a sweep. We might as well go home."
