Let's Hope Celts win in 6, not game 5!

Post#1 » by jfs1000d » Sun Jun 15, 2008 5:28 pm

Hell, I want them to win tonight too, and I think they will, but as someone who works in the media I can tell you if the Celts win in game 5 ----IT IS GOING TO GET BURIED by Tiger and the U.S. Open.

Tiger is in contention at Torrey Pines in prime time after an absolutely incredible back 9 last night. This is going to collide with the NBA finals and go head to head...AND absolutely eviscerate the NBA. The story will be Tiger on Monday, and if the Celtics win, how Tiger defeated not only every golfer, but also Lakers-Celtics in the ratings. You can book that right now.

Another thing to consider. Newspaper deadlines are going to run with Tiger winning the U.S. open because it is going to end around 10 p.m. Outside of Boston and LA, this is going to be Tiger's sports pages on Monday. Why? Because newspapers' first edition deadlines are between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. If the game is still going on, the sports editors redo the paper on the fly.

But, now they have Tiger to run with in the early editions. That means they will bury the Celtics "below the fold."

Trust me on this. Tiger will bury the NBA tonight if he wins the U.S. Open. The NBA is it's own worst enemy. 9 p.m. game on Sunday, and it's father's day?

Someone should tell Stern that people don't want to end father's day at midnight waiting for a game on the East Coast. This game should have been 4 p.m., or the latest, 7 p.m. Eastern time.

Bad luck on the NBA's part that Torrey Pines is West Coast and that causes golf to run late. Worse TV scheduling.

Tiger>Lakers-Celtics. We don't want that dynamic. A dream finals has already turned into a nightmare with Donaghy.

Uggh. Stern to blame to be honest. You can have Finals games start at 9 on the East Coast. Ratings may be better, but you lose the news hole on every paper east of the Mississippi.

Sorry but burying the Lakers means more to me than Tiger possibly overshadowing us in the media. I want to curb stomp them tonight. We already broke their backs, now knock them out. Sure there are some nice perks winning it at home and the ensuing media love fest but I say **** it, end the series as quickly as possible. Don't let the Lakers think for a second they will be the first team to come back down 3-1 in the Finals.

lets not.

5 games is good enough. i dont care if we win & get on the back page, we're still world champs. i'd rather win & be on the back than lose historically & be on the front after a game 7 loss.

celtics need to end it ASAP, don't give the lakers any hope or confidence, they need to rip out whats left of their hearts tonight....

Three Celtic starters are playing hurt, if they play at all.

The sooner the Celts win this, the better.

Besides, I do NOT particularly want to watch any Celtic losses!!

First,

Doc deserves a chance to see us close this series out on Father's day.

Second, that presents the type of situation that gives our guys intense motivation to close this series out tonight.

If we lose, not only do the Lakers have life, but our guys don't have the same level of intense motivation - at least from a sentimental standpoint - to close the series out in games 6 or 7. You take advantage of this landscape tonight, and who gives a crap if it makes headline news across the country.

IDC what ESPN chooses to make the headline. Celtics winnin the title would be top story for me until preseason.

Win now, forget the newspapers and the rest of the media. There will be plenty of press to go around. Never root to lose.

Ive been unable to watch ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNEWS this week because of the US Open. Everytime I see them covering it for more than 30 minutes I get really bored and want to see some other sports highlights shown.

I'm one of those people who like Tiger Woods and want him to win but I won't actually watch any of the tournament. Just hearing that Tiger won and seeing a few highlights is enough. I don't need a hour coverage of every single shot. I actually got happy when they showed a highlight of Nascar instead of golf and I hate Nascar.

Also this is the most idiotic post Ive ever seen coming from a basketball fan. How could you want your team to lose game 5 because they won't make the headlines? Winning is winning and the number of people knowing about it shouldn't make it any less special for Boston fans.

This is the correct answer. Put them away now.

If I was given the choice to either close out the series or prolong it and give the other team hope or a shift in momentum. I would chose to win the series now. Just like everyone saw in games two and four. The tables can turn in a hurry. I want to end this series in game five.

Ok, but no whining when Tiger and the US Open leads the broadcast on ESPN. Just warning. BTW, this was semi tongue in cheek. I will take the win now too.
