We didn't select Jordan... Giddens was a senior so he'll be ready to play. I wonder what this means for Pruitt

The rebounding ability is pretty unique for a 2-guard. What exactly were his offcourt/attitude problems?

While the pick was somewhat a shocker the more I read up on him the better it seems.

He's had some attitude issues but it seems to be behind him.

As other's have said, he will essentially replace TA for less money. With some seasoning and hopefully proper tutelage under Ray and Paul he'll meet his potential.

Good write up at Draft Express:

Man, I really thought after winning an NBA Championship Danny Ainge would get some benefit of the doubt, but apparently we really are the fellowship of the miserable.

If he took Sasha Kaun, I'd be with you guys. But c'mon - how can you not see that this guy fits our needs? What do we need most? A replacement for Posey and a future replacement for PP and Ray, even as they play when their minutes start being reduced. Giddens is a good defender, much better defender than CDR, and IMO a better team player than CDR. He's 6'5" and long, so I don't know why you guys call him a combo guard - he's a 2 all the way.

I love Mario Chalmers and would have loved him to give Pruitt competition, but I'm absolutely fine with this pick of Giddens. The kid is a senior and can definitely get minutes for us next year, particularly if we don't sign Posey or let Tony Allen go.

And talking about value on the board is absurd. Out of all the guys you guys mentioned (Jordan especially) 75% of them won't be in the league in 3 years anyway. This isn't that valuable of a pick, and we got a guy who's got some real upside.

If you guys are pissed about his personal issues, thats fair...but to get on the talent is ridiculous.

It means nothing to Pruitt. Pruitt is the backup point guard if he can earn the job. Giddens won't be taking his minutes.

Danny has shown himself to be one of the better drafters in the NBA, so i guess he sees something here. Besides he is a need. A high reward type guy, that has questions but if he busts won't ruin the franchise.

Most guys available at 30 are not going to crack the rotation of a championship team. Do we want a rookie point guard as our backup to our young PG? No you want a vet who isn't going to make mistakes, but we don't need to develop into a starter.

Also there are plenty of backup centers on the market and a 7 footer who is ready to help rightaway isn't going to last until 30, and as can be seen by the bevy of Euros selected already the high upside centers weren't falling to 30 either.

The book on him is that he isn't an amazing defender because he doesn't try. KG will either straighten that out, or kick his ass.

Top need was an athletic wing. The atlanta series showed how we can be exposed. NO TA, that left Ray Allen, Paul PIerce and James Posey on the wing. That is 3 guys over the age of30 and not exactly in their athletic primes.

It's a good pick in that sense. We need a defender and future scorer at this spot. A big? Not going to be a factor.

After reading the draft express write up, it seems like a DA pick.

There's always something a bit wrong that gets other GMs to avoid the risk. Rondo couldn't shoot. Powe had knee issues. Baby was too fat. Gomes was not long enough to be an NBA power forward.

This guy has off court issues that have undermined his reputation. He's been stabbed in a night club. Wasn't Pierce stabbed in a niht club? He has team chenistry issues. Didn't Pierce have some issues with adjusting to a team. I know Bird did.

The kid has the size and apparently the talent. Maybe the Celtics can turn his attitude to the good side. It is a typical DA gamble. High payoff, low risk.

He is like tony allen but not as good at D, makes poor decions better rebounder then his size would suggest, great dunker, lacks in the head. Never was a big fan of him at KU

After reading a bit, I remember this kid when he played at Kansas and from High School.. those years ago, I liked him.. but he fell off my radar when he left Kansas. He was a great talent in High School.

I think it's a *shrug* .. trust Danny, and we'll see.

We may be looking at doing a sign and trade with Tony, add somebody like Powe, Baby, or Scal and get a nice player in return.

If Ainge wants him. we should be happy. Walker = Gerald Green. CDR = Julius Hodge

Doc just said he's very athletic, has a huge wingspan, and they drafted him with the expectation that he'll compete for minutes this coming season.

Giddens has the athleticism to be a great defender and the length. IMO, he was at worst a good defender in his senior year, especially at the tail end.

And if you need to know, I'm a gambling degenerate, thats why I'm familiar with Giddens.

Well after seeing his youtube highlights, maybe we'll have a dunk contest entrant next year at the very least.

I guess anyone you draft at 30 is going to have question marks. If it was attitude issues that have dissipated with time, sounds like a good roleplayer. Good defense, the 9 boards from a shooting guard is a special skill, and rebounding tends to transfer well between levels of play.

Rondo/Pruitt
Allen/Giddens
Pierce/Posey
Garnett/Powe/Scal
Perkins/Davis

He's like a bigger version of Rondo, except a lesser defender. He fills up the stat sheet and like RR he's a great rebounder.
