Mixed Emotions. I kind of wanted chalmers or CDR. But hey at least we didn't draft a euro.

So, I like the pick, I am on the bandwagon!

Ricky_is_god wrote:I understand dunking isnt everything but the best thing people saw in Walker was his athletic ability. Giddens is equal. He does everything else similar, is a better defender, and a more experienced player. I didn't mean to say that because he can dunk he was a good pick, even though it came across like that.

I also didn't mean to emphasized Kedrick's or GG's dunking -- they were pure athletes that didn't have a clue how to play basketball. "Athleticism" is over-rated. I can't say I know anything about Giddens but "athleticism" and "dunking" don't do anything for me.

Danny loves players with big wingspans for their size [Rondo, Perk, Powe] and Giddens fits the bill. He is also extremely athletic (dunk champ next year?) and has an outside shot. I didn't expect us to pick him, but I expected us to get a player that I didn't expect. If he can defend and shoot the 3, he definitely can be a contributor next year...especially if we can't keep TA(I hope we do though and Doc said TA is almost as important as Posey to keep).

To be honest this might be the pick that we wanted or the pick that we expected but with Walkers Knee and Jordon being 2-3 years away, I believe it was the right pick.

JR looks like a potential go to guy. Sounds like he needs to mature a little, but that's the beauty of playing with KG, he will grow up fast.

Do you guys think Giddens can play the 3? His game seems to be more like that of a 3 and he has the length, he's just not tall.

I haven't followed this draft class at all, but so long as he can provide offense off the bench we'll be golden.

It really makes you wonder about this team's attitudes regarding House and Tony Allen moving forward, though (and -- to a lesser extent -- Pruitt). You'd think he'd be considered a replacement for one of the first two, but Doc singled both of them out (especially Allen) during his interview w/Russillo and Dickerson as guys that they wanted back next year.

Granted, we've heard all along that the pick won't be expected to be a contributer out the gates, but the way Doc and co. talked him up it makes think otherwise. Seems we have a potential glut of guards, yet we want House/Allen back while getting burn for Giddens/Pruitt...and obviously none of them will be starting any time soon. Maybe Doc's just saying all the right things for now, since House probably won't return.

JR is willing to take a three.

well surprise surprise.
Ainge goes for an athletic, defensive player with good rebounding ability.
i thought it'd be CDR when the pick came up. giddens is a small surprise but not a big one.
you guys are going to like this guy. he is a lot like TA but not as boneheaded on the court. hopefully he's already gotten all the off-court boneheadedness out of his system.

we've got our own rodney stuckey now. except bigger.

me like.

Very happy with JR. To me this seems like a low risk pick; the floor for this guy (putting aside the off the court issues that caused him to drop) is basically Quinton Ross, i.e. a valuable defender/role player for the bench. JR also has some offensive upside, and could end up being a real steal. But absolute worst case scenario we just drafted a guy who can hold down the SG position for 12-14 minutes per game off the bench. Not too bad at all.

I remember if when he played with kansas. This is it for Tony allen for sure. If you ever had the experience of dealing with TA at the autograph show at the basketball hall of fame the guy was a complete jerk at leat on that day and don't forget the shooting incident. Giddens is a good pick in that he is a senior and is a more well rounded player than some of the freshman drafted. He is also a appears to be a good rebounder. Getting walker for cash is a low risk high reward.

This pick was a bit of a bubble burster, but nothing to get upset about. Very similar to the Delonte/Allen drafts. Again, I trust in DA. He was working the phones to trade this pick so maybe its for someone else.

Would have loved to move up a couple spots and got D Arthur.

JR was one of the players that I was looking at. While I like TA, I thought JR would be a great TA replacement. He is 6'5 and averaged about 9 rebounds per game. He had a game this year where he had 20 points and 19 rebounds. JR is more athletic that TA was even before TA got hurt. I feel you guys will like this pick in a short time.

That's the youtube clip you need to watch if you wanted Walker instead of Giddens.

Big deal. We've seen Kedrick Brown and Gerald Green do that, and now they're cleaning pools.

The main difference is that JR attached the glass. Brown and Green would just stand around and wish the ball landed in their hands after a missed shot.
