OT- SIXERS MAKING A MOVE

Philadelphia 76ers forwards Rodney Carney, Calvin Booth and a future No. 1 pick have been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves to free as much as $2 million in additional salary cap space for the Sixers to offer Elton Brand or Josh Smith, multiple league sources said. Minnesota sends Philadelphia its $2.8 million trade exception from a 2007 deal of Mark Blount to the Miami Heat. Carney and Booth have been told of the deal, sources said. The deal can’t be finalized until the NBA trade moratorium is lifted on Wednesday. Yahoo! Sports

Danny now has to make a move....... 8-)

great move for minnisotta. they don't really need cap space for the next couple seasons because Al Jefferson is already signed long term.

At the same time, Rodney Carney gives them a very talented young prospect with a pretty high ceiling. They don't have any athletic 3's like him on the roster. The first rounder is very nice as well.

What, Kevin Mchale with another shrewd move, I actually like the KG trade for them, they got a hell of alot more for there star then most teams do......look at the gasol trade, or the recent jefferson trade...Yi..really...... I am not sure if I like the love deal or not yet but this is an unlcassified win, 2.8 million dollars for a pick and a nice young player with potential who needs to learn how to shoot. Not bad. Still a gaping hole at PG, but maybe they want to suck for 1 more year and get 1 more top 5 pick before spending money on a PG.

^^

You can never reach the talent of a established star like a KG, so in that sense, they did pull of the best deal possible for the best young talent they can get for him.

As for Minnesota I have no idea how adding Josh Smith or Elton Brand make's them a huge contender, it's Detroit, Boston, and Cleveland, with Washington on the outside looking in. No one else can possibly contend for the title from the East.

They haven't made a move yet. Whoes to say Brand doesn't sign with LAC and GS offers Josh Smith max to play their style that his stupidity, I mean strenghts are built for?

Nothings done till it's done.

They aren`t getting Brand. I expected them to make a move like this cause 11-12 million they had available wasn`t enough to get Smith from ATL but 15 million per year might me too much for the hawks. But it is not enough for Brand, he is not going anywhere, IMO.

I don't think Josh Smith makes them a contender in the East but if they add Brand to Miller, Igoudala, and Dalmebert that is no worse than the 4th best unit in the East and maybe as good as #2 behind Boston. Orlando is better than Washington and LeBron can only carry his guys for so long and DET is getting old. I think that adding Smith could help them and in a year or two make a big difference but Brand is one of the 5 best PF's in the game.

The thing about Carney is that he isn't young the dude is 24 years old and he isn't very good but the Wolves pick up a 1st rounder and add two expiring deals if they don't pick up Carney's option that they can use to add another pick this season.

Wow, nice move by McHale. He takes on a center and a young prospect and gets a first rounder in return.

With the addition of Baron I thought the Clipps could only offer him $11-12 million (could be wrong). I'm pretty sure the only reason they could even get Baron is that Brand basically made a verbal commitment to take a paycut if they got him help.

But there has been a lot of talk that Brand wants to get back to the East coast. The 6ers with Brand are a hell of a lot scarier than anything the Clippers can ever put on the floor imo but Elton seems like too nice a guy to botch on an agreement.

If the Clippers lose Brand, it'll be one of the dumber GMing moves over the last 8 years. Right up there with the Cavs letting Boozer get to the open market. When will these GMs realize that the second you let a quality player hit the market, some other team will make a big run at them?

Looks like the Sixers think they have Brand:

Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that Brand has given the Sixers indications that he is poised to accept a five-year deal worth an estimated $82 million and spurn what was presumed to be a slam-dunk return to the Los Angeles Clippers to hook up with Clipper-to-be Baron Davis.

This makes the Sixers a legit contender imho.

Booth challenges Kaman for the ugliest man at the Center position.

Ouch dude, good thing he made it to the NBA. Those girls would never touch him otherwise. The first rounder might be valuable for Minnesota, and Carney can add a little bit of depth to their team.

Damn, add Brand to Philly and they're legit.....Miller, Iggy, T-Young, Brand and Dalembert. Brand would put them right up in contention in the East just like that. I also like the trade for Minn, well done McHale.

I also think if Brand doesn't go back to the Clips, Maggette will end up back there.
