Rondo has worked on his shot

Postby Gant on Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:51 pm

Former Providence coach Tim Welsh said on CSN that Rondo went to Atlanta and worked with Mark Price on his shooting all summer. Welsh said before Rondo was a bad shooter and now he is an average shooter. Apparently Rondo has corrected the flaw in his shooting form.

all summer? how did this not come out earlier

i mean, awesome news if true... but i dunno, i thought we heard he was working out somewhere else, might be wrong though

lets hope this is the case, would be great to see defenses have to guard rondo all the way out to the 3

Yeah. Welsh said Rondo worked out every day all summer with Price and that he's keeping his elbow in now. Welsh expects him to take many jumpers in preseason to get his confidence up.

I saw the same report. Welsh was down on Rondo's shot at the end of last season as well as Rondo's commitment to improve so he does not toss out compliments lightly.

Again a statement about our pathetic Celtics beat writers that not a single one had a clue about this, arguably second only to KG's health as a central story of the off-season. I googled Rondo and Price and shooting and nothing came up about this at all. Pathetic.

yeh, hopefully he shoots a lot in the pre-season to see if the new form and confidence translates to game situations

His jump shot looked a lot better last year in January over how terrible he was shooting in the first third of the season (Oct/Nov/Dec). If I remember correctly that was the time he started working out with KG. However his jump shot was shaky, fragile and remained inconsistent by the time the playoffs started he seemed to have lost the gains he was making.

Last Season he improved as an offensive option although he has similar numbers the season prior he was better in half court sets. Even in transition he was a better finisher the year before I can remember him being terrible around the basket; missing lay ups or getting blocked.

If his shooting can improve in a similar fashion Rondo might be able to reach his potential a whole lot faster then many of us expected. Last season with minimal work on his jumper he was able to show improvement as I said before it wasn't lasting but with hard work over the summer I think we can expect him to see significant improvement, consistency and more range; hopefully that is the case.

Yea I wouldn't get too excited about the Mark Price part. I heard Marquis worked with Price before last year on extending his range and he ended up shooting like 25% from 3pt land.

It is good to hear he put in the effort this summer though (how he didn't do this last summer is beyond me)

As long as he shoots it with 2 seconds or less left on the clock he'll knock 'em in. Worked last year.

One important part is that according to the report, Rondo now keeps his elbows in when he shoots. At least his form has improved.

That's good to hear. He's skilled in almost every other regard, shooting has always been his achilles heel.

I still can`t get over the fact that he only started working on his shot last year...Just can`t understand that...

Hopefully, we see improvement this season...
