not sure about that, especially if you're a weak power hitting team. the a's have been doing it for a while the angels are exceptional at it with figgins and willits (ive seen those 2 turn little dink and IF singles into 3-5 run innings b/c of there speed.)

hell with the rangers lack of power this year they've adopted a small ball approach.

plus arent the power #'s way down this year anyways?

 @ Hanley struggling on a backhand in the hole.

This guy cant make routine plays and is considered the best SS in the game.

Ramirez is better than Reyes, but Reyes is the perfect lead off man. So valuable.

Hanley will probably move to CF at some point because of his defense, but his huge offensive advantage over Reyes still puts him ahead in my opinion.

Ryan Theriot is clearly the best SS in the National League.

From Buster Olney, just goes to show much Reyes impacts a game.

Jose Reyes should be part of any conversation about the NL MVP. Consider some of these numbers: He became the first NL player since Tony Womack in 1999 to steal 70 bases, and the impact of his baserunning is real. In the games in which he's stolen a base, the Mets have a .625 winning percentage, according to Mark Simon of ESPN research, and when he doesn't steal a base, their winning percentage is .528.

Here's more: When he's been on base during David Wright's at-bats this year, the third baseman is hitting .400, according to the Elias Sports Bureau; when Reyes is not on base, Wright is hitting almost 100 points lower, at .307. Carlos Beltran is hitting .329 with Reyes on base, .260 when he's not. Wright and Beltran are more apt to see fastballs with Reyes on base, of course, because opposing catchers and pitchers must combat Reyes' base-stealing threat.

And, oh by the way, Reyes has the second-highest fielding percentage of any shortstop in baseball. That's a good year.

Struck out twice.
"The guy is an idiot," Pedroia said regarding Cabrera. "I dropped my bat. It kind of freaked me out. I was upset they took him out of the game. He is good to hit. He's 9-15. The guy [stinks]."

Tough one. I'd have to go with... I don't know. I guess Reyes right now, but that could change tomorrow.

If Tulo's offense improves on last year (where he was one of the better rookie's SS's in history), he's going to be scary.

No doubt. I'd take him over everybody but Hanley right now.

Hanley's my pick overall. His defense is the only defensible reason you wouldn't pick him, but I think what he's doing as a hitter makes up for it. The notion that Reyes "does more" is absolute nonsense.
