First time doing Auction + Keeper (Grade?)

Post#1 » by J.Kim » Mon Mar 7, 2011 2:04 am

I just tried an auction league for the first time. It's a keeper league (22 keepers on 25 roster spots).

12 Team League, Mixed, $270 budget

I feel like I got great value throughout the draft. What do you think?

I personally love me some Jay Bruce, so I obviously like that. Morrow, Stewart, Danks, Chapman also good value too.

Surprised you were willing to pay more for Beltre than Kinsler.

Got to explain why Michael Young that high though.

Michael Young and Adrian Beltre were bluffs I got called on pretty much. I was trying to up their bid price so that other drafters would have less to work with in the mid-to-late rounds and i could underbid for some pretty good players. Worked out pretty effectively for most of the picks except for those two so I just went with it. The early round players bid price got overbid so high that I could afford to throw around money from Corey Hart and onwards. Except for Beltre and Young, pretty much everyone was picked up for under value.

Also explains how from John Danks and on I got everyone for approximately 1/3 the price or even less of their average drafted value.

Never played auction before, but there are some guys that you got that I'm going to target and ones I plan to avoid

I like.........
Brett Gardner, Jay Bruce, G. Soto, Chris Young, Pujols (of course),

Guy's I plan on avoiding.......
Jimmy Rollins, Ian Kinsler (injury concerns),
N. Feliz (Tex can't decide if they want him to start or close)

Like was already mentioned, you spent quite a bit at 3B, which is probably why your pitching staff is a little weak overall,

Who are the best players that are still available?

With all of the Minor Leaguers you want to draft, you are going to be spending a lot of time studying guys that will never play in the Majors. It just seems like a waste to me.
