Looks like you will be right. McKay and Wright both available, Tampa on the clock at 4.

Watching the draft on MLB Network, they compare Wright to Gerrit Cole of the Pirates.

Keith Law said he might rank Wright as our number 1 prospect. He was arguably the best player in this draft, and we got him at 5.

Interesting. 1 over Albies, Allard, Soroka, Maitan and Anderson?

Side note: Ronald Acuna has now jumped up to #7 in our top 30 list, Braxton Davidson has fell three spots and now at #27.

BR compares him even more favorably:

MLB Player Comparison: Stephen Strasburg

Wright might not be generating the same hype Stephen Strasburg did during his time at San Diego State, but he has a chance to develop into a similar starter at the MLB level.

Aside from their repertoires, both pitchers also have strong 6'4" frames, with Strasburg weighing in at 235 pounds and Wright checking in at 220 pounds with room to add more muscle.

Wright will likely never be a consistent double-digit strikeout-per-nine-inning pitcher like Strasburg, but he'll still whiff plenty of hitters.

Hopefully he won't have the same injury history, that Strasburg has had.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the two is the health factor. Wright seemingly has smoother mechanics and exerts a bit less effort than Strasburg, so he may be better equipped to stay on the field.

Strassburg and Harper were regarded as pitching and hitting generational talents. Just looking at Wright's stats, I find it hard to believe he's on - or even close - to the level that Strassburg was at. Strassburg was ridiculously dominant before the injuries.

All of this is fair. Time will tell what K-Wright is able to develop into.

I do think he's a middle of the rotation guy at worst. And only a couple of years away.

This has value even if he never quite reaches these lofty expectations.

Absolutely. And saying someone is not at Strassburg's level is not at all an insult - since more than 99.99% of prospects are not at what his level was. Dude was the phenom of phenoms.

G-Braves Media @GBravesMedia

Medlen gives up a hit and walk to start the 7th, ending his night.
His partial line:
6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO
3-1 Toledo, 2 on B7

They got out of the jam, that ended up being his final line.

Mike Soroka - Tonight so far: 6 IP, 2 H, 0R, 1BB, 5 K. Last 3 games: 21 IP, 9 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 18 K. Season: 2.26 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 69/16 K/BB.

A scout from another organization told Joe Simpson he was no. 1 on their board and that Wright will be MLB ready by next season. I personally think Wright will be an Ace.

I think we need to just cut Colon, eat the loss. Trade Garcia at the deadline, he's our only FA pitcher we signed, with value. Get what you can for him. Then it's time to call up some of the kids.

Teheran
Folty
Dickey
Newcomb/Medlen
Weigel/Sims

I think we need to see if Newcomb, Weigel and Sims are ready to stay in the bigs. All 3 are right on the cusp of being ready. Keep Medlen on roster, use in bp, long relief, spot starter.

It seems like Allard and Soroka are not too far behind either. They both could get promoted to AAA later this summer and spend most of next year in AAA, with a chance for call ups next September and ready to join the rotation in 2019.

G-Braves Media @GBravesMedia

Knights add another run on Moncada's 1B to take 5-0 lead after 5 and a half. All 5 runs charged to Medlen, who struck out a season-high 9.

I couldn't find his full line, he was cruising along for awhile and things fell apart all at once.
