Welp, a typical start for the Braves - they gave up 3 runs before getting an out, but Tomlin settled down after that. That is a tough top of the order for Washington with Turner and Soto batting 2nd and 3rd. Eaton leading off with a double doomed Tomlin.

6-2 Nats in the 6th. Acuna fouled a ball of his left inner ankle in the 4th inning, had to be carried off the field. Pray for Acuna

Through 12 innings, the Braves have stranded 22 runners. i can't watch any more - the lack of clutch hitting is painful. Otoh, they did a terrific job to tie it at 7.

Came from behind to tie but we couldn't win in extra innings. Let's get the win today with Ian on the mound.

Acuna is expected to start in CF. <sigh of relief> He was writhing in agony for a long time last night. I thought it seemed strange that he was in such pain, because the ball hit him right on the thick brace he was wearing. I was afraid maybe that caused him to twist his ankle, but it didn't really look like he did.

Speaking of strange, D'Arnaud... he's a good hitter - maybe very good, but when he's bad, he's awful. Some of his at bats have me scratching my head - he'll swing at sliders that are a foot outside, but not just that, he'll swing like 2 seconds after the ball's gone past his bat. Like the Donna Summer song - when he's bad, he's so so bad. If I was pitching against him, I'd just throw outside offspeed pitches - mostly sliders. He doesn't seem able to judge them.

Ian Anderson is legit! The Nats can't hit him. He's got a tremendous 87 mph changeup - it's fooling me - looks just like his 95 mph fastball. He's throwing it right down the middle, and the Nats are whiffing. Granted, the ball is not carrying at all today, but he's been great.

Solid win today.
Happy to see Ian get his third win.
Also, wow, a low scoring game.

The turning point was the 6th inning. The good guys were down 4 to 2, and Scherzer came into it having thrown 104 pitches. He ain't a kid anymore, and he's had a couple of physical problems this season. He's one of those guys who hates to get taken out, so he probably convinced the manager to keep him in. So he gives up a 2-run homer - tying the game, and they still don't take him out. And shortly later, Albies smacks another 2 run homer, so Scherzer goes 118 pitches and gets the loss. But he gets his 10 SO's. I can see bringing him in to start the 6th, but once he gives up that 1st 2 run homer, take him out. Sometimes ya gotta be tough on the superstars for their own good.

Hard to say. The O's had a terrible series offensively against NY and might not be disciplined enough to take advantage of Toukki's wildness. Jorge Lopez... hard to figure him. He's got a 94 mph fastball with a good hard sinker with an assortment of offspeed stuff. But he seems to make a lot of mistake pitches up in the happy zone, so I expect some homers for the Braves.
