Not bad for our 24th pick...

Braves 1B Bryce Ball, Rookie Advanced Danville: 2-for-3, 2 HR, BB, 3 RBI, 3 R -- This year's 24th-round selection turned 21 on Monday and celebrated with a pair of jacks. The Dallas Baptist product turned in the first multi-homer effort of his season as he led off the second inning with a blast to right and went to the same spot in the eighth for a two-run dinger. Ball also worked a six-pitch walk to get things started in the fourth and came around to score four batters later on a fielding error. Ball has gone yard seven times over his first 17 pro games. Gameday box score

... he's 6'6 235 lbs - has 7 homers and 6 doubles in his first 59 pro at bats, 11 walks vs 9 SO's.

24th pick or 24th round?

Huge game for AAA catcher Alex Jackson yesterday - 2 homers, a double and a single. But it's hard to know what to make of him as a prospect. He's an all or nothing hitter - 17 homers but only 6 doubles, a real good .847 OPS but only a .229 batting average. Gotta figure he's not a good defensive catcher since he was once converted to OFer. Former 1st round pick by Seattle. Still just 23, and with the shortage of quality MLB catchers - he has value, but he's got to make contact more often.

He recently got his 2nd promotion of the season - up to AA where he's got 4 hits in his first 9 at bats - on the same team with Pache and Waters - quite an outfield.
