Boston missing the playoffs could very well be the objective here , so I won't be shocked if NY lays over against Tampa, but we'll see what happens.

It's hard to imagine the Yankees laying down for anyone, but their hate of the Red Sox makes this the one and only exception. Boston has a 1 game lead with 3 to play - just like Atlanta. Will be interesting to see if one, both or neither of them (Sox or Braves) chokes away the big WC lead they once possessed in September. It would be expecially disappointing for Boston. After the off season acquisitions they made, everyone had them picked to be in the WS and most had them winning it.

Tampa wins, Boston loses. Tied for the WC with 2 games to go.

Ozzie traded by White Sox to Marlins for 2 monor leagers. Guillen will manage the Marlins next year. Now that brings some excitement to the NL East!

Just some bar talk: Ozzie Guillen

Post#44 » by HMFFL » Tue Sep 27, 2011 3:50 am

Would you support him as our coach?

We would never sign him, but I am just looking to discuss, and I wanted your opinions. I like his strong personality, probably not for our veteran team, but he'd be amazing on a young team.

I just created a topic about him to discuss before I saw you posted this. I only heard he was released from his contract and that he wants more money. The Marlins are a perfect situation for him.

I have always respected the way he's managed and his bluntness.

No, but I'd love to have Ned Yost.

Red Sox let Terry Francona go. He wins 2 WS for them after they go something like 86 years without, and blame this year's collapse on him. I hope they dont win again for another 86 years.

I'm not a Cubs fan at all, but how great of a story would it be if Francona and Epstein sign with the Cubs and lead them to a World Series?

Blame is solely on players, Crawford had a down yr, Lackey was more awful then Lowe.

The World Series with Texas and STL should be interesting. I think Texas takes it.

Josh Hamilton has an injured groin, not good for Texas, and it shows. Texas needs to win game two tonight. So far, it's 0-0 top of the 2nd.

Some Philly news:

Phillies declined RHP Brad Lidge's $12.5 million option for 2012.
An easy call. Lidge will receive a $1.5 million buyout and test free agency, though the Phillies have expressed interest in re-signing him. The 34-year-old right-hander didn't make his season debut until late-July due to arm problems, but posted a 1.40 ERA and 23/13 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings. It will be interesting to see if a team gives him another chance to close.

Phillies declined RHP Roy Oswalt's $16 million option for 2012.
An expected move, Oswalt will receive a $2 million buyout. The 34-year-old right-hander was limited to just 23 starts this season due to a back injury, but still posted a 3.69 ERA and 93/39 K/BB ratio over 139 innings. The Phillies remain interested in bringing him back at a lesser salary.

Philly has signed Jim Thome to a one year deal.

I don't think this is that big of a deal. Thome's pinch hitting numbers have been mediocre and I would be shocked if he plays much first base this season considering he's played 28 innings in the field since leaving the Phillies in 2005. Still a huge upgrade for the Phillies bench, not anything to bang your head on the wall about. :)

And now they are going after Cuddyer. Interesting. That team is always trying to find a way to improve; have to give them their due. But man, do I hate them!

No doubt, they are now most 2nd most hated team, after the Stankees.
