Very discouraging news.

Hopefully no penalties for the Braves, but if they blatantly broke the no tampering rules...

I hope we don't lose Maitan. John S and Hart will do all that they can to bring back Dayton Moore.

Turns out all those crazy rumors weren't so crazy after all:

Sounds like John S and Hart (especially Hart) need to go. How would Hart not know what was going on? If he didn't, he should have. It looks like a real mess. And they probably do need a Dayton Moore to restore credibility. Gotta figure Maitan's gone; just hope we don't also lose the 8th pick. Welp, Maitan was going to take several years to develop, anyway - and who knows what position he ends up at. Sigh. Take any deal MLB hints at offering to keep the 8th pick - such as firing everyone remotely involved. Trying to think positively - the signing of the Korean 17 year old SS prospect could take some of the sting out of losing Maitan.

The more I read about Coppy - he was really despised around the league. Braves can take this as an opportunity to gain respect, but it won't happen overnight.

Any thoughts on how the vacant GM seat might effect our decision on a new manager?

If we're weeks away from a new GM, but we're expected to make a decision on Snitker in a couple days...

do we maintain the course and keep Snitker for another year? Or clean house and let the new guy decide...even at the risk of missing out on the top choices for manager in the meanwhile.

From the ajc:

Five potential candidates for the Braves GM job

Dayton Moore, general manager, Royals
Once serving a variety of positions with the Braves, from scout to assistant general manager, Moore built a world series champion in Kansas City. He was among the preferred candidates before the Braves hired Frank Wren, and Royals ownership said they wouldn’t block him from interviewing for another position. The Royals are approaching a retooling phase, but Moore received an extension last February and has deep roots to Kansas City.

Moore addressed speculation Monday, telling Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com: “I’ve heard that stuff before and I’m not even going to comment on it. My focus is and always has been on the Kansas City Royals.”

Dan Jennings, special assistant to GM, Nationals
An NL East veteran, Jennings is likely among the early names on Hart’s mind. He joined the Nationals in 2016 after a 13-year tenure with the Marlins. Like Coppolella, Jennings’ background is in scouting. He worked his way from associate scout to GM of the Marlins in 2014 and leading the Fish to a 15-game improvement. When the team fired manager Mike Redmond in 2015, Jennings served as manager for the remainder of the season. The Marlins hired Don Mattingly as permanent manager, which freed Jennings to pursue another opportunity. Jennings could be the top candidate and the Braves may have already reached out to him.

J.J. Picollo, assistant GM, vice president of player personnel, Royals
If the Braves can’t get Moore, why not consider his top assistant? Picollo worked with the Braves from 1999 through 2005. He joined the Royals in 2006 as director of player development and has since worked his way up under Moore. Picollo is an often mentioned candidate for these positions and recently interviewed for the Twins’ president of baseball operations position.

Jason McLeod, senior vice president of scouting/player development, Cubs
McLeod is an unheralded voice in Cubs’ front office, along with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. He too has a background in player evaluation. McLeod has been key in the draft room, helping his teams select Jacoby Ellsbury, Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo, Josh Reddick and others. He’ll appeal to several teams as a new-age, analytic-friendly candidate.

Kyle Stark, assistant GM, Pirates
The Braves could consider the young route again and the 38-year-old Stark would be a logical candidate for where the system stands. Stark has served under Neal Huntington since he arrived in Pittsburgh. He began as farm director and was promoted to assistant GM in 2011. Stark helped take the Pirates from two decades of misery to playoff contender through the development of a deep farm system. Sound familiar? Stark would be well-stocked in Atlanta and have more financial freedom as well.

That's a great question on who should make the decisions. It should NOT be Hart, imo. I would ask the Commissioner if he had any thoughts... that would lower the penalty. At this point, it's much more important who's in the front office than who the manager is. With all due respect to Snitker, that decision can wait.

Rosenthall said Coppy had a verbal contract agreement with a 14 year old SS. Coppy... seriously?

Really tired of Hart acting like he's Mr. Clean. He needs to quit or get fired ASAP, imo. He should NOT be making decisions for the Braves. I love John S, but it's a good opportunity to retire.

This is pretty damning. Leadership involves getting subordinates to buy-in and follow your vision. The fact that no one is willing to go on record defending Coppy is an indictment on his tenure even more than the allegations of cheating, IMO.

All that said, we are setup to succeed sooner than later.

He'll go down as the Sam Hinkie of MLB.

Damn

Yeah, I get the feeling the team was backed into a corner with no GM in place to find a replacement. We'll get back in the market after next offseason for a full time skipper.

I don't care who makes the decision, but bring back Dayton Moore, including what he wants. Which is to only answer to CEO Terry McGuirk. It's time to move on from John S(now in HOF, needs to retire) and Hart.
