He's just not the same player anymore. But it's a decent gamble tho. Again the story of this offseason.

How many 5th outfielders do we have? Carter, Bailey, Kotsay, Wilkerson, Baldelli, Van Every.. Am I forgetting anyone?

It is making sense now, Mark Kotsay had back surgery on the 21st on Jan. He will miss at least the first month of the season.

So the Sox bring in a vet guy like Wilkerson to compete with the Bailey, Carter, Van Every group.

Yep Kotsay will miss the first month, so its alwasy good to have depth. He can also play 1stbase, so his versatility will be missed. Carter and Bailey can also play firstbase so we should be fine. I want to see Chirs Carter get some major league AB's. I'd like to have Carter/Bailey come up and fill Kotsay's 5th OF/backup 1stbase bench role until he is healthy again. Rocco is the 4th OF, but when JD Drew gets injuried (hell he is already complaining about his back and Spring Training hasn't officaly started yet) I don't know if Baldelli could handle playing ever day for 12 strait games because of his condition. Thats when I would want to see Wilkerson come up.

We might see Lars this September, but I would say he's another year way from being major league servicable. He's a prospect I def. wouldn't trade. He's got 30+ HR power written all over him and will be the lefty bat that replaces Ortiz.
