Matsui eh? I'd be okay with that. I want bay back, but Matsui and Hermida is not a bad back up plan.

I'm surprised that they would be all that interested in Matsui. No idea if he can even play the field next season and I don't think he replaces Ortiz.

Being from Toronto its tough getting to ctach up on all things Sawx, but I have to disagree with the matsui move. I think a Matsui/Hermida platoon isnt a viable option to replacing Bay, and unless the plan is '11 with all the big name FAs, we should be making a splash by trading some of our overrated prospects.

Having Tek and Wake for cheaper helps with Henrys strangling of the payroll, but we need more impact players not mediocre/older ones. I like the rotation as is, with maybe a few tweaks, but our offense isnt going to carry us like in years past. Were getting rid of our best power hitter, and still have issues at 3B/LF/DH. Papi, Lowell have become pariahs to our catching the yankees, and if Mauer reups with Minny it kills the opportunity of moving Vmart to 1B, and Youk to 3B, once their contracts come off next year, which is what we have all been hoping for.

I dont mind moving Paps, but hes going to be tough to deal for the reasons mentioned above, although I wouldnt mind if Bard/resigned Wagner took over the duties. I just think ultimately we dont have the right trading pieces, nor any payroll flexibility til next year, and that means same old Sox minus Bay. We could be in for a tough year.

You can have Doc for free if you take on Wells.

Halladay + Wells for NOTHING.

Tell Theo to sign that deal.

Nick Cafardo saying sox will not deal Buch and Kelley for Doc.

NY paper saying the sox are still trying to kick the tires on a Hanley Ramirez deal.

Rumors all over the place, hopefully we land a big name and do not have the offseason we had last year. If we come out of this offseason with just Sheets, Scutaro and a filler in left I'm gonna go crazy/

We need to pick up a couple big name free agents this year or it's a failed offseason. Roy Halladay would be a nice, but I want to see one or more of Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, or Hideki Matsui in a sox uniform next year, in that order.

The small, probably unrealistic talk of getting Hanley is the first thing that's really got me excited so far this offseason.
He's one you empty the farm for, and he's cheap enough where you can get a solid starter to fill in for the departing Bucholz. I really wonder what the Marlins gm would see as the package that coulld pry him away. Would it take a more proven ml player(Youk, Lester, Ellsbury?), or the blue chip prospect platter.
I just hope this isn't some garbage writer filling space and making this up.

Pedroia could be moving over to short.

I guess it makes sense. There are better options available at second base rather than shortstop.

If Pedroia can make the move it would greatly help the team this offseason IMO. Both Dan Uggla and Brandon Phillips can be had in trades and Orlando Hudson is a FA.

I guess we can scratch that idea. Sox are closing in on signing Scutaro to a two year deal.

Defense is fantastic from what I've read, so, who knows, could be a lateral move, could be an upgrade.

Red Sox Could Land Beltre
7th December, 2009 - 4:51 pm
Twitter (Bob Nightengale) - If Adrian Beltre rejects Seattle's arbitration offer, Boston could scoop him up as a free agent.

"It wouldn't be surprising if Beltre falls in the Red Sox's lap if he doesn't accept arbit from the Mariners," Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote on his Twitter page.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona has said he's content with Mike Lowell at third, but the team has been linked to a number of corner infielders

I love winter meetings. Like a christmas of rumors.

eh, Beltre, really? Do we already have a place lined up for mike lowell?

According to WEEI.com, the agent for right-hander Justin Duchscherer, Damon Lapa, and the Red Sox met Sunday night in Indianapolis.

Duchscherer declined the A's offer of arbitration Monday afternoon and is free to sign with any team he likes. He's drawing interest all over the baseball map despite his absence from the 2009 season. He was 10-8 with a 2.54 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 28 starts in 2008.

I had a feeling we were gonna look at this guy. I think he was in our minor league system, and I remember terry having good words for him when he picked him as an all star.

I heard sox were in talks about getting towers and ricciardi to come on board. I'm cool with Towers getting a spot in this FO, but JP can screw off.

I have read your press. its impressive.

Report: Red Sox To Trade Lowell To Texas
10th December, 2009 - 2:56 am
FoxSports - The Red Sox have reached a preliminary agreement to trade third baseman Mike Lowell to the Rangers for catcher Max Ramirez, according to a report on FoxSports.

The deal is contingent, according to the report, on the players passing physicals and approval by Red Sox owners of absorbing a considerable chunk of Lowell's $12M salary.

Officials on both teams failed to respond to requests for comment.

Well, if true, bye Mike, thanks for all the hard work.

I love Mike Lowell, but I think it's time to let him go. He's just can't get out of his own way anymore.

Sox sign Mike Cameron to a 2 year/15.5 mill deal.

Hmm, if you would have told me that the sox would have signed john lackey and mike cameron, I would have called your bluff.

What a weird day. Glad that they signed lackey, but what about our offense. Bay is not gonna come back, we need a big bat. Maybe they're think gonzo for bucholz and others. Put youk at third. IDK.

Return to Boston Red Sox
